Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I'm a big fan of the Questyle sound, that's why I have a CMA800i. However for the price of the mentioned Questyle stack you should question if it isn't more wise to purchase a Pass INT-150. Not the cheapest either, but you have the opportunity to drive speakers as well.- myriad10k

True that, you also need the 800P pre-amp for left and right channel volume matching. Insanity!- myriad10k

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Thanks for your elaborate answer. Kind of unusual to prefer the tube+ and SS as second to the tube mode though, imho. Since I found the difference between tube and tube+ quite subtle on a HD800.- myriad10k

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Good to hear. Which mode did you use? As in SS, tube or tube+. I'm assuming it was balanced output? Also, which gain?- myriad10k

= Hifiman Regrilling Mod =
Hehe, my bad. Quite an elegant solution, assuming the trousers were washed before of course :P I hear you, I had to get used to the sound without the stock grills also. Had some toilet paper on the inside of the cups to tame the highs. Even though the 400S doesn't have a hugely present...- myriad10k

Wow that looks pretty sweet! Since you have a double grill, can you hear a difference between your awesome mod and the stock grills?- myriad10k

"Illegal" webshop for headphones and gear-fi: simplyelectronics.
Hi guys, Wanted to warn you about ordering via simplyelectronics.net. I was on the lookout for a Oppo PM-3 and stumbled upon an ad of the aforementioned website. It said €389 instead of the regular €529 through official dealers. Seemed kind of fishy to me so I contacted the UK/Euro customer...- myriad10k

Buddy of mine did the grill mod on his 400i. It looks pretty awesomesauce to me! Can't wait to get me some tools so that I can apply the same grill to my 400S. @Textfeud ,thanks for the tip- myriad10k

Purchased a Color Series HPC cable for my HE-400. Prompt transfer, unique packaging, good build quality and awesome value. Also came with a individual serial number. Consider me a happy buyer, much more practical than the ultra-stiff stock cable.- myriad10k

The Asgard is a Class A amp, as is the iCAN. That's why it can run hot, nothing to worry about though. From what I've gathered is that the Asgard 1 is supposed to better than V2. Keep in mind that Schiit products always have a lively and up-front sound. Perhaps you like the Asgard/K501 combo but...- myriad10k

You sure? I prefer a bit of warmth to complement the lean low-end. I have never used or extensively heard neutral amps but something from Burson seems like a good match. It is frequently praised for being mid-centred and adding a wide soundstage i.e. the same qualities as the K 501. With a...- myriad10k

The general rule of thought is headphone>amp>source. Although some people (including myself) spend more money on a amp. If you're satisfied with a K501 (who isn't?) then you need to be on the lookout for amplification quantity and quality. What source are you using? And how much is your amp...- myriad10k

Hear hear, no one understands why. The K7XX and K712 PRO are supposed to be really good, give them a try sometime if you're interested. I have yet to listen to the K 501 with a good fit of the headband. So I couldn't say which amp I prefer more to drive them. But between the amps themself, I...- myriad10k

Ah man, those are elastics?! Mine look and even feel like pieces of dental-floss... Hmm, do you happen to know if I can fix that? Even if from what you're saying the elastics should be the main cause of sliding-off- myriad10k

Have these cans for about a week now. Very happy with 'em, just one chief area of concern though. The sliders of the headband keep sliding off. So it's impossible to get a good fit. It is like they are hanging on my head in the same way they would hang on a headphone stand, if you guys know what...- myriad10k

The synergy between these cans and the iFi Micro iCan is just stuff of legends! I like the combination of the HD580, iCan and iPod much, much better than my home rig (Beyer T70, Violectric V90 and Schiit Modi)!- myriad10k
