Aune T1 died, looking for a replacement DAC\Amp combo. Any recommendations?
I know this thread is old, but I recently upgraded to the new T1s (4th gen), which sounds fabulous, even with the stock tube. A worthy upgrade from the older Aune T1 models.- Cheesedoodle

I would add that unless you are getting a great deal on a used older unit, the T1s (ie, 4th gen) makes a lot more sense for the money these days than a mkII or mkIII.- Cheesedoodle

Some others earlier have mentioned the new Aune T1 s 32-bit. I just received mine a few days ago. I'm a long-time user and fan of the T1SE mk3, and this new generation is a major upgrade, in my opinion. The soundstage, holographic impression, and detail in the new unit are considerably more...- Cheesedoodle

That's helpful, thanks. It does seem the gain switch is still there. Quoting from the page you linked to: Gain switch 0dB 10dB 16dB Bluetooth addition is kind of a bummer, in my opinion. I guess they have to add it these days to make it "future proof," but it adds to the cost and is...- Cheesedoodle

The new 4th gen T1 apparently has upgraded capacitors (and DAC chip), so that might be an option to consider if you want upgrades but can’t solder. I’m definitely eyeing it.- Cheesedoodle

Anyone familiar with Aune's new version — the T1s 4th Gen? Looks like it might be a nice upgrade. I only see it online in a few places, and very little info online about it generally. Currently looks a lot more expensive than its predecessor (around $500).- Cheesedoodle

Recommendation for True Wireless Earphone (Cambridge Audio Melomania 1, Klipsch T5 True Wireless?)
I agree the fit for the Melomanias is tricky, and it's the biggest problem with these earbuds. What I found is that the fit was different in each of my ears. I guess my ear canals are slightly different sizes (maybe that's common, maybe not, I dunno). I never noticed anything til I tried the...- Cheesedoodle

Recommendation for True Wireless Earphone (Cambridge Audio Melomania 1, Klipsch T5 True Wireless?)
I agree with everything you said. I also had an issue—one of the foam tips tore when I was taking it off (they are very gummy and easy to tear). I contacted CA's customer service and they responded right away with a message that they were sending me four new ones. The battery life on the CAs is...- Cheesedoodle

Recommendation for True Wireless Earphone (Cambridge Audio Melomania 1, Klipsch T5 True Wireless?)
The Cambridge Audio Melomania are excellent. The hype surrounding them is deserved. In my view, they are audiophile-caliber earbuds. I also have the Sony WF-1000XM3 (because I want active noise cancelling for flights), and I definitely prefer the sound of the Melomania, despite that the Sonys...- Cheesedoodle

I did a lot of research into this a few years ago, too. If I recall, the short answer is that lots of people prefer vintage Amperex Orange Globes. I bought a pair and agreed they were the "warmest" and most holographic to my ears.- Cheesedoodle

I'm not an expert, but I do have a pair of orange globes. The second pair is orange globe, the first, I believe, is not. The price of the second is hard to comment on, because it is a "start bid" price, so no telling what the final sale price will be. I paid about $65 for my pair, which seems...- Cheesedoodle

Sennheiser IE800 IEM's
Thanks. I'm searching from the US and I didn't see anything quite so low, although now with a little more searching I see there are a few deals from reliable retailers. I have wondered if Sennheiser is discontinuing the IE 800 because inventory seems to be limited.- Cheesedoodle

I'm curious where you ordered these that gives you confidence that they are not counterfeit at that price. I have seen new IE800s available eBay for around this price but I worry about whether the earphones are legitimate.- Cheesedoodle

iPhone 7 Will Revolutionize Portable Audio for the First Time in a Decade
Right. My question is what bit rate(s) the dongle decodes. I believe the iPhone headphone out DAC was shown to decode at 16-bit (maybe 24-bit?)/48khz but not higher. If the dongle actually decodes at higher bit rates that would be awfully cool. For what it's worth, my own subjective...- Cheesedoodle

iPhone 7 Will Revolutionize Portable Audio for the First Time in a Decade
I don't fully understand the point in this article about the dongle's 24-bit/192KHz audio output capability. Is it saying that the dongle can output 24-bit/192KHz audio (which I believe is incorrect), or that it does a good job down-converting 24-bit/192KHz audio output to 16-bit 44.1 (which...- Cheesedoodle

Reply to review by 'cheesedoodle' on item 'ONKYO A800 50mm Open Back Headphone'
Thanks for the review! I own the earlier Onkyo on-ears and they are one of my favorite pairs—rich bottom end and silky mids and trebles. Glad to hear Onkyo continues and improves on that trend in their newest line.- Cheesedoodle
