For anyone who uses the m40x headphone you have to use the zmf cowhide earpads. This is a match made in heaven in regards to sound and comfort.

Akg q701 the obvious choice.

If you want to do the bass mod on the q701 you will have a kick ass set of cans.

If you want niece balanced full rich sound get the audio technica ath-m40x.

Heck I did the bass mod on the q701 and even without the mod the q701 just obliterate the a50.

Since I got my audio technica ath-m40x and put on the zmf cowhide earpads I have been going through The Beatles music catalog. What I am hearing is absolute music perfection.

For the best in comfort and the best audio quality put the ZMT cowhide earpads on the m40x. I get an eargasam every time i use them. I use the m40x over my sonyxb700, sony 7506, Sennheiser hd558,akg q701 and m50x.

I did a mod on my astro a40. Open up the driver housing and behind the driver is a black adhesive material stuck to the inside of the driver housing.Remove this sticky material. Now this headset has a complete new sound,truly open and sounds very good.

Ever since I did the bass mod by removing those stickers.And I got fed up with the headband being uncomfortable,I cut off those damm bumps. I have rediscovered these cans I use them all the time. Now this headphone has the sound and comfort I was looking for when I bought them.
