Anyone feel like they can never quite get their dust covers sitting back in the correct position after pulling them out the first time? There seems to always be one little bit of it popping out and touching my ear, and the part over the driver puffs up a little bit.     It was my...

That's a very optimistic way of looking at it. You're conveniently disregarding the mountains of marketing spiel that can and probably will impact their purchase decisions. Confirmation bias plays a huge role in this.   In an ideal world one could walk into a store with their headphones, plug...

Sure, but the opinion of somebody who boasts of sonic changes from aftermarket cables can just be left in the trash along with those of people who think they have psychic powers.

Bit pointless beating a dead horse but it may pay for you to actually learn how to interpret frequency response measurements before running your mouth.

Again, you're entitled to your opinions but that's all they are, opinions. I'd appreciate if you stop trying to shoehorn your opinions in as facts because what you're saying contradicts measured response, which is a much more relevant and meaningful reference than your opinion.

At the end of the day it's a preference thing, I don't think we'd be here discussing them if we didn't like them after all.   That being said, even if I didn't like them I don't think I could part with the comfort of the massive cups surrounding your ears and the thin but surprisingly...

Correct. Also given the rigorous QC the HD 800/S go through, I believe the unit to unit variance isn't something to worry too much about and Innerfidelity's measurements of multiple HD 800 S models confirms this.    For those saying the HD 800/S are the most neutral dynamics you've ever heard...

Every other third party measurement ever done. Hell, @JaZZ has conveniently posted the measurements from Innerfidelity right here. At 100Hz the response is -3, at 4500Hz the response is around -13. I think that's a little more than a 5dB deviation.   We also don't know what compensation is...

I implore you to find a single third party measurement showing that section of the frequency response to be the same as depicted by the Sennheiser graph. Your logic here is based on inexperience and opinion so your conclusion that their measurement isn't meaningless, is meaningless.    For one...

I see we can't have a decent discussion of the headphone with all these words being put in my mouth and baseless assumptions being used to lever counters against the case I'm presenting so we'll leave it here. For the record @Mediahound the graphs provided by Sennheiser are meaningless and...

You are indeed entitled to believe they are neutral, but the only evidence we have suggests against that. You're free to state your opinions but when it starts spreading around as 'fact' and people begin soaking in this misinformation, it becomes a problem.   Just my 2c, maybe the problem is...

When did I say I didn't like bright headphones? I was merely stating they were bright and not neutral. People call the DT 880 neutral too, or at least used to, so anecdotal evidence isn't exactly reliable.

I'd just like to reiterate that it could also be your music choice. Many times I've listened to the HD 800, the annoying peak wasn't present at all because of the selection of music on the playlist seemingly optimized for them. I have tried them from the HDVA 600, Burson Soloist, WA6 and WA22...

Sorry I don't think I worded that right.   My confusion here is how people are so much more willing to jump to the conclusion that a DAC or amplifier are more likely to have coloration than the headphones. I think it has been pretty well established over the years that transducers are the...

I don't even know why I bother trying to talk sense here, people are drowning in their own delusions.   The fact that people can call this bright headphone 'neutral' yet turn around and say this measurably neutral, transparent DAC/Amp is 'bright' and makes the 'neutral' headphones 'brighter'...

I'd like to see some evidence outside of useless anecdotal 'evidence' of this being anywhere near 'true'.     See above.     To date there has never been a measurement made that has shown the HD 800 or HD 800 S to be anything less than bright, including those by Sean Olive, Audeze...

I still don't understand the notion that the HD 800 or even S for that matter are 'neutral'. They're far from it and the S are still bright, though the peak is tamed. Maybe you aren't listening to the music that excites those high frequency ranges.

If you like the HD 800 classic from a tube amp then you really can't complain over the additional 2nd harmonic distortion in the HD 800 S as tube amps tend to **** out this distortion like there's no tomorrow. If you read Tyll's article on the matter he questions whether the distortion is...

EQ is an option sure, but do you trust your hearing, something that is demonstrably unreliable to tell you not only the response of your headphones but the 'ideal' for them to be matched to? I've seen the results of 'EQing by ear' and a lot of the time it's not pretty.   I've been measuring...

Looking good! I've been wanting to make something similar for my HD800S just because the stock cable is so unnecessary heavy and they look rather boring. It's too bad the asking price for the proprietary connector alone is like $40..

On some recordings there is still a bit of sharpness in some vocals. It's still a bright headphone and I do feel like this helps to calm that treble energy a touch more but I'd definitely be interested in making up another set to send off to @Tyll Hertsens for measurements.
