Paladin - I, too, lower the amplifier volume before plugging or unplugging the headphones. Also, when powering everything up I turn on the Asgard and wait for it to get up to full power (it's running Class A), next I turn on the Modi 2 DAC and then my AV 40's. (The AV 40's do not like having a...

I have the Asgard 2 which also has preamp outputs. My M-Audio AV 40s are plugged into the preamp outs and when I plug in a pair of headphones the preamp outputs automatically shut off. If I remove the headphone plug the preamp outs turn back on.   You'll be fine so go ahead and enjoy that Schiit!

Listening to Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man performed by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and conducted by Erich Kunzel. It's in WAV format (lossless, 1411 kbps, 44.1 KHz) pulled off of the CD using EAC.   Wow!

New Schiit owner here: For Christmas I acquired (from head-fi members) an Asgard 2 and a Modi 2 Uber to pair with my PSB M4U 1 headphones.   Man, this Schiit sounds great!     Greg

Buy Higher Resolution Music to "Future-Proof" My Catalog?

I, too, have picked up a lot of music at a local Used CD shop. I remember paying $7-9 for CDs years ago and today am paying $3.50-5.00. Rip them lossless using EAC and I've got a growing collection at a very reasonable acquisition cost. When HDTracks lists pulling a 24/192 or 24/356 from the...

Buy Higher Resolution Music to "Future-Proof" My Catalog?

Thanks for the link to the list - I'd already reviewed it and have visited a number of the sites. I have only purchased from HDTracks so far and was put onto them by a friend who is an audio engineer. (That's what started this drain on my wallet!)   I agree with your statement about humans'...

Thanks for the reply and the link. That is a very interesting and informative article and gives me a much better understanding of both PCM and DSD.

Buy Higher Resolution Music to "Future-Proof" My Catalog?

I am receiving a Schiit Modi 2 Uber along with a Schiit Asgard 2 for Christmas. I've been a speakers-guy but this year bought a pair of PSB M4U 1 headphones to use with my laptop. I quickly realized that my computer's sound card was not my friend, hence the DAC/Amp combo for Christmas. I've...

    PSB M4U1 - Thoughts?

I have both the Schiit Asgard 2 and Modi 2 Uber set to arrive next week.   I sure hope my M4U 1's sound good through this Schiit!  :-D

    PSB M4U1 - Thoughts?

Well, I don't have a DAC but I did just agree to acquire a Schiit Asgard 2 from a seller here on head-fi! Now to continue haunting the For Sale pages until the right DAC appears...

    PSB M4U1 - Thoughts?

big, Thanks for the reply and the advice. After researching further I had come to realize that the DAC is not designed to output to headphones so I proved there really IS such a thing as a stupid question!   I'm really leaning toward the Uber stack because I would like the preamp to run my...

    PSB M4U1 - Thoughts?

I hear you, Sam. I run my computer at about 25% volume to keep from blasting my eardrums. Would you mind pulling the Magni out of the mix and check the headphones with only the Modi?  You have the perfect test bed for this and it would let me know how well just the DAC plays through the M4U 1.

    PSB M4U1 - Thoughts?

I NEED A DAC!   I bought the M4U 1's six months ago and love them. They are my first 'real" pair of headphones other than my beloved Etymotic eR6i's. The problem is the M4U 1's are so good that I can't stand listening to music through my laptop headphone out jack -- I must get a DAC or a...

PSB M4U 1 or Mr Speakers Mad Dog

I bought a pair of PSB M4U 1's from a Head-Fi member (narrow bights). Great deal for a really great pair of headphones.  I've been listening to everything from Basia to Warren Bernhardt and Dire Straits to Deep Purple even Creedence Clearwater Revival at 192/24 and they sound fantastic...

    Wooden Headphone Stands

I've seen pictures of a number of very cool, curved wood headphone stands here in the forums. They're very pretty and look like a laminate of sorts. It looks like a great way to show off a good pair of cans. But, where do you find them?   Thanks, Greg

Why Obscure Prices on Sold Items?

+1 on good moderation. I'm a mod on a motorcycle board and it is a never-ending job to keep the spammers and general internet nuisance-makers from causing trouble.   Note: I was not trying to be a nuisance with this thread. :-)

Why Obscure Prices on Sold Items?

Nothing nefarious, just trying to get a framework for what prices for a particular device were "reasonable" at a particular time. I understand adjusting for time value of money and the seller sets his own price as he sees fit. Again, the extra information would be helpful to prospective buyers.

Why Obscure Prices on Sold Items?

cel (nice avatar, btw), I am actually asking about the text within the ad. I've noticed that a number of sellers will edit out the price, within the text of the ad, with "SOLD" or simply delete it. I wish they wouldn't do that as it removes information useful to buyers doing their homework...

Why Obscure Prices on Sold Items?

Not trying to start a war here but, rather, I am legitimately curious: what is the reason for obscuring or deleting the price at which an item was sold? As a newbie it is helpful to me to see how used pricing compares to new. I am shopping for value and considering a wide variety of equipment...
