Sure, give them a try. Might sound okay in a cheap switch. But here is the reasoning I wrote elsewhere about it: SFP modules with RJ45 are NOT desirable for a variety of reasons: a) They contain limited magnetics (usually just 4 cores--as opposed to to for example the 12-core per port with...

Perhaps you might listen to your 2022 self...:o2smile: Nothing "antique" there. Just 100% original design. These boards cost us over $300 each to produce. I guess you don't get around much then. My engineer partner, John Swenson, recently retired from Broadcom. He spent 31 years as a...

iFi audio LAN iSilencer - Your network. Silenced.

Sorry but co-opting the Tesla name does not make the Ansuz two-coils-wound-in-opposite-directions a “Tesla coil” in any sense. Please do at least a tiny amount of research. And since iFi Audio publish photos of both sides of the LAN Silencer, it is easy to see the devices and techniques used...

“Tesla coils?” What?! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_coil This is a thread in a sponsored sub-forum, so out of respect I’ll just suggest you look a bit closer at the technical highlights of our board. FAR more that just the $65 of LT3045/42 voltage regs going on there.

If buying a BG7TBL clock box for 10MHz use with audio, this is the one you want, just $87: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255799966225158.html With BG7TBL clock boxes it will always be a crapshoot as to the actual phase-noise performance of the OCXO in the unit they ship you. But for the low...

Avoid the adjustable output units. Go for the simplest ones with the least amount of circuitry. Also avoid the square wave units as the sine>square converter circuit in the BG7TBL is extremely primitive.

Are you measuring and controlling differential impedance? It should be 100 Ohms per pair—otherwise signal integrity (as seen on eye pattern) is compromise. Do you have the equipment to measure and confirm performance? Or is this just a DIY hobby cable?

No “marketing jargon“ at all! I hate such, though we see a lot of it from the marketing departments of all sorts of firms who are afraid to actually explain their circuits and offer no technical details about how/why things work or matter. The ONLY reason jitter/phase-noise matter with...

You are making stuff up again. We have never seen a clock synthesizer PLL that triggers on the falling edge of a clock. Show us one. And what does the LHY's grounding (the non-"isolated" DIP switch setting) have to do with any of this? That's not going to change the jitter seen (though it might...

Square wave results for the OCK-2 were the same (just didn’t have access to the image on my phone today) as the internal sine>square circuit is the same for both models. Power supply of the OCK-2 is better than OCK-1 so its sine wave has fewer harmonic spikes on it. Phase noise performance is...

That is because, as proven by 3 respected engineers on 2 continents, the square waveform outputs from that clock brand are anything but square. Stick to their sine wave output—and use a Mini-Circuits 11MHz low-pass filter on it to get rid of the amplitude modulated harmonics which also plague...

I did not. Just pointed out that switching in/out a capacitor across the separated ground domains does not constitute actual isolation. As I said, it does block DC and filter some AC. But it won't block all leakage current, and of course it has to pass the 10MHz clock signal.

You are pointing to common capacitors. The custom transformers are just below that. Since you reported me and had my post of facts deleted, I am done here.

Not the same at all. Your arrows are pointing to tiny custom transformers. The photo is just not high enough resolution to see that. And there is the whole multi-stage active buffer circuit before each one.

Well not really isolated. Just a capacitor across the separated ground domains. It does block DC and filter some AC. It won't block all leakage current, and of course it has to pass the 10MHz clock signal. Compare to full, active driver/isolation circuit and transformer on each output of...

As Martin correctly indicated, and as we explain in our paper--on the subject of sine vs. square, considerations of clock cables, and filters--for sine wave output impedance matching of clock>cable>device does not matter at all. But it does for square wave. A really great square wave is a good...

Sorry but you are just making up nonsense. It is not possible to externally adjust or control the heating profile or circuits of an OCXO.

    Master Clock Talk

I don’t know where this trend got started, but covering the OCXO with materials that change its thermal dissipation is bad for phase-noise performance. Talk to the engineers at the firms who design these modules and they will confirm that.

Please leave me out of this. It’s Christmas Eve after all! There is so much misinformation and misunderstanding in this snake bed of a thread. I’ve been thinking about a long post to clear a lot of this up, but it will take me about 90 minutes to write. Maybe next week. Goodnight.

Well you get what you pay for. We advise against purchasing any clock that does not come with a guaranteed phase-noise performance graph. Leo Bodnar measured both OCK-1 and OCK-2. Those clocks were advertised as -110 and -115dbc/hz at 1Hz. Beatechnik cleared those phase noise specs from...

That is indeed how you would utilize an external reference clock with your DI-20HE. The phase noise performance of the Accusilicon AS318-B XO clocks built into the DI-20HE pales in comparison to that of a serious OCXO such as the MUTEC. As to just how much sonic difference you will hear is hard...
