    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I've sent my second sample of the Sennheiser HD 600 back to the store. Not because of the fact that one of the plugs was harder to remove from the earcups than the other one and also not because of the clamping force. The main reason why I've returned it is because the earcups were so small that...

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

Well, I've received my Audio-GD NFB-11 today. Exactly 1 week after Magna Hifi received my payment, they shipped the unit to me. Two days later (today) I received it.   First impression: nice build quality, not something you would expect from a product which has the text "Made In China" written...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I've watched the same video and the guy says you have to be very careful when removing the drivers because the tabs can easily break. This tells me it isn't something you want to do on a regular basis.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Changing the drivers (on a regular basis) may be a cheaper solution than owning both headphones, but it will cause wear on the tabs holding the drivers which will eventually break off.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Nope, not kidding you. Just to be clear: I don't listen to music with these headphones on my head when I'm going to the toilet or when I'm going to get me a drink. So I don't need a BT headphone.     Not applicable since I only wear them when I have to take a piss.     Well...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I do this all the time with my HD 590 and HD 598, but these headphones have normal connectors. I do this when I have to go to the toilet or when I'm getting something to drink. It's much easier than taking the headphones off and putting them back on afterwards (since I would have to find the...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

People often say the grip is pretty tight on the HD 600. While there is definitely more clamping pressure than with my HD 598 and HD 590, the headband feels much more comfortable.   Quote:   Well, I guess I'm not the only one then. Although this 2nd sample is a bit less stiff than the...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Well, it's the opposite behaviour now. The red plug is stiff when trying to remove it from the headphone while the black one is pretty smooth. I guess this is sort of normal behaviour, so I'm keeping the 2nd sample. I've also noticed that the first sample was definitely a sample which had been...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Well, my first sample is probably going back (free shipping costs from the local post office to the store) and I've already ordered a new sample which will arrive tomorrow. Reason? The black plug is really stiff when trying to remove it from the headphone while the red one is pretty smooth. You...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

Thanks. I currently own the HD 590 (almost 12 years old now, but replaced the foam headband pad and earpads a few days ago) and the HD 598. I still love my HD 590, but I've never really loved my HD 598. In the 3 years I've had them, I have maybe used them for about 100-200 hours...

I've just ordered them (new) for 289 EUR including VAT and shipping costs (that's 209.247 GBP or 306.466 USD). They will arrive tomorrow.

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I'm thinking of buying this legendary headphone. I already own the HD 590 (which I still love and got replacement parts for recently) and the HD 598 (which I don't like that much). How does the HD 600 compare to these headphones? I've also ordered an Audio-GD NFB-11 (model 2015) which I'm...

    Sennheiser HD 590 Appreciation Thread

Today I've received new earpads and a new foam headband pad for my HD 590. Even though my HD 590 is almost 12 years old, I still love it. When talking about comfort, my HD 598 is no match for it. The only pair of headphones I still secretly want, is the HD 600.

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

No, they don't have any stock right now (because of the exchange rates between USD and EUR they keep stock low). And yes, that's probably how they do it (after doing the TCXO upgrade themselves) since they're an official reseller (it's listed on the Audio-GD website).

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

Well, the friendly folks over at Magna Hifi have already mailed me back (even though it's a public holiday today). Apparently the description on their Audio-GD NFB 11 v2015 page wasn't up-to-date (still referring to their old stock supply). The DSD Mute Switch is definitely included and they're...

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

Well, at least my cables are already ordered. I've ordered the following cables:   Clicktronic USB 2.0 Cable (USB-A connector to USB-B connector) 1m Clicktronic Optical Cable (2x Toslink connector + 3.5mm adapter) 2m Professional Audio Cable (3.5mm Jack Stereo to 2x RCA) 2,5m Professional...

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

At the bottom of the page Magna Hifi says their Audio-GD NFB-11 v2015 is missing the DSD mute switch because according to them this switch is mostly unwanted and not practical.   Is the lack of this switch a big deal?

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

Thanks, that's what I initially thought.     Well, I thought that when S/PDIF is used the audio is just passed along untouched. Like e.g. copying an image to the HDD of another, more powerful computer via the network and editing it in Photoshop on the more powerful computer.

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

True. And that was indeed my concern (having to clean it regularly). Would have been unnecessary if it didn't have a hole at the top of the case.     Hmmm, that sounds as if the inferior onboard audio is just transported to the DAC. Is this the ideal way? Would using the USB input on...

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

I'm totally new to S/PDIF and didn't know anything about it except for that it's a digital connection (according to wikipedia there are two types of S/PDIF cables i.e. a coaxial cable with RCA connectors and a fibre optic cable with Toslink connectors).   Now, I did some research on my...

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

Bad news. The folks at AMI Musik mailed me back to tell me the Dutch reseller is definitely not legitimate and they did not know of the existence of the AMI Europe website. The closest official reseller is located in Germany and they ask 690 EUR (shipping costs 16,5 EUR) for the DS5 and 635...

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

The Audio-GD NFB-11/15 also looks like a nice USB DAC at first sight. I don't like to order outside Europe, but luckily I've found a Dutch company who sells a modified NFB-11 for 391 EUR (excl. shipping costs). Not sure what has been modified though. What worries me though is that the frequency...

Considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp (max budget: 600 EUR, extended info inside)

As the title mentions I'm considering buying a Desktop USB DAC with built-in headphone amp. In the past I've had an AudioQuest DragonFly 1.2 for a few days, but couldn't notice the difference between it and my onboard Realtek soundcard. So that DAC isn't an option anymore.   Current gear   -...
