Should I be using my 5.1 speakers like this?
Hey there, so I have a cool mediocre setup that pleases me but I realized my 5.1 speakers may not be in actual 5.1. I will explain. So here is my setup. https://gyazo.com/ad61cc66b7eaa5c145d9be8ed8fa454f I hope that clears things up a bit, that my receiver is going through my DAC and...- dontdothat21

Dac, amp, or dac+amp first? HD 598s question.
All I know, is that I'm happy with my FiiO E10k. HD 598 + e10k is an affordable awesome solution to entry level high end audio.- dontdothat21

Dac, amp, or dac+amp first? HD 598s question.
Alright! Would I not hear a noticeable difference in spending 20 more dollars or are these 598s simply not good enough?- dontdothat21

Dac, amp, or dac+amp first? HD 598s question.
So I decided I won't use the receiver. Too tedious. My options for the HD 598s are: FiiO E10k, 75$. Schiit Fulla 80$. Musiland Monitor 02US DAC/AMP only 109$ HERE Or the CEntrance DAC/AMP for only 149$ HERE What is the best decision and match for my HD 598s? I would like...- dontdothat21

Dac, amp, or dac+amp first? HD 598s question.
I really like the idea of saving money but the receiver is upstairs. It still may be possible to use the reciever, but I'm not sure if I can use it, while my family uses the reciever for 7.1 speakers. Not even sure if it's possible to send two signals two ways at once like that. Forgive my...- dontdothat21

Dac, amp, or dac+amp first? HD 598s question.
Every review I've read boast about how magnificent these are soundstage wise, and I used these on my high end receiver (500$ ~ Onkyo) and listened to FM radio with amazement. Spotify 320KBs OGG files. I do not know how they are compressed or anything about that codec. I am plugging them...- dontdothat21

Dac, amp, or dac+amp first? HD 598s question.
Hi! I can't decide what I actually need.. my 598s are NOT very clear and sound 'polluted' when a lot of instruments are present. Anyways, I'm looking for a DAC or AMP or both that will not 'bottleneck' the HD 598s but still not break the bank. 60-120$ can be spent this week. I have two...- dontdothat21

Onboard mobo audio, set up my home theater as a dac, or buy a dac? What is the best option for HD 598s.
Alright, I think I will probably buy a schiit dac, then once I have $ for a schiit amp I will pick that up to :)- dontdothat21

Onboard mobo audio, set up my home theater as a dac, or buy a dac? What is the best option for HD 598s.
I didn't actually mean I was going to spend $300 on a dac/amp, because I wont, but I did want to know the technical positives and what I will personally notice from a 300 to 70$ dac/amp. Why, besides volume should I buy a DAC + AMP? Sidenote, I'm keeping these 598s for 2/3 years +. One...- dontdothat21

Onboard mobo audio, set up my home theater as a dac, or buy a dac? What is the best option for HD 598s.
Awesome. So if I am happy with the on-board quality of my 5.1 I suppose I could stick with that. Because I totally am. :D They aren't really for music, just podcast or livestreams. That's assuming I can use two sound cards on a windows 8.1 system? (DAC usb + SCard in mobo?) I hope that's...- dontdothat21

Onboard mobo audio, set up my home theater as a dac, or buy a dac? What is the best option for HD 598s.
Hi, I am using the theater with 5.1 speakers ATM. If needed, I could unplug them since my headphones are priority. I unboxed my 598s today and they are somewhat quiet. I'm going to pick up a optical digital cable tomorrow. As far as the audio quality goes, I suppose it sounds good but I somehow...- dontdothat21

Onboard mobo audio, set up my home theater as a dac, or buy a dac? What is the best option for HD 598s.
My bad! If it is purely an amp, doesn't that mean I won't have an altered experience? (No eq or anything?) Thanks for the suggestions, would it be pointless to rig up my receiver and use it as an amp if I don't mind the size? Could the sound quality DEgrade? Would I be missing out at all vs...- dontdothat21

Onboard mobo audio, set up my home theater as a dac, or buy a dac? What is the best option for HD 598s.
I am looking for a non-bottle-necked experience to go along with my new Sennheiser 598s coming in today :) I am looking at a few options but have no clue what is actually best for me. I have a 2011 ASUS gaming motherboard. It has an onboard audio chipset (Realtek ALC892). I wanted to know if...- dontdothat21

Do I need a DAC for HD 598s? Is my motherboard enough?
I would love to save as much money while having a great sound set up. No bottlenecks with the 598 and I'll be happy :) I have an 2011 ASUS gaming mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131792 It has a Realtek ALC892 chip set for audio. Is the on-board sound processing...- dontdothat21

M40x vs. HD 598 vs. AKG 240 MK II vs. AKG 553
Thank you all! I decided to get the HD 598s. I might restore the DFs one day but not this day :( I hate how my ears touch the drivers/layer as this agitates my ears after an hour or so. (Gosh I'm picky.)- dontdothat21

M40x vs. HD 598 vs. AKG 240 MK II vs. AKG 553
Really? Above 20khz is a marketing ploy? Like crazy high dpi for mouses? That scares me since I thought that was the opposite. So I seriously want these legacy headphones over new 598s? That baffles me :D One thing I can't accept is regret, and if I feel like I'm missing out I wouldn't...- dontdothat21

M40x vs. HD 598 vs. AKG 240 MK II vs. AKG 553
Would I be missing out since 15-20Khz instead of 12-38Khz ? A sound card (PCiE) will work fine for me. I am tech savvy enough to install it. But will a sound card be better than a dac in any aspect? Won't these old phones bottleneck me?- dontdothat21
