[FiiO M5] Compact and Versatile Hi-Res Music Player

My M5 arrived from Amazon US this afternoon. I've been playing with it at work this afternoon. So far kind of disappointing. I will not be able to update the firmware of the player until I get home so maybe it will improve but the overall lag with the M5 is pretty bad. I'm not just talking...

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

I'm using my 6th gen iPod touch with a cheap Fiio A3 and am amazed at the sound.

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

I suspect there will be a 256 Ipod touch along with the rumored announcement of high resolution/lossless audio being available on itunes. Maybe an iPod 15th anniversary edition?

    Fiio X1 VS X3II?

The sound is slightly cleaner with the X3ii when using the headphone out- with the line out they seem almost the same to me.. It depends what you are using the DAP for.  If you don't need digital out, a separate line out, a stronger headphone amp or DSD decoding I would save your money and get a X1.

The release of FiiO X1's new firmware FW1.3

I gave up and got a 128gb iPod touch.  No 5800 limit, gapless works perfect with aac/mp3 and browsing works great regardless of category.  You just have to put up with iTunes and I can live without high rez music.  Tried Fiio, Pono and went with Apple.

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

Why not just convet FLAC to ALAC?

    FiiO X7 | DXD | DSD | 384K/64B | ESS9018+ Android | WiFi | Bluetooth | 4 AMP modules | Balanced Out |

USB 2.0 and 512k ram?  That's kind of disappointing.

The release of FiiO X1's new firmware FW1.3

Apparently not. About ready to just sell my players- can't just wait around in hope they will update firmware. The 5800 song limit is ridiculous. They have so many new products that have been introduced I have to wonder if their resources are stretched a bit thin.

    Apple Touch 6G 128GB - Info and impressions 5G vs 6G

That's called smartass audiophile humor. That explains why my red IPod has more expansive sound. ;)

    Apple Touch 6G 128GB - Info and impressions 5G vs 6G

I did a brief test and I really haven't had time to really sit down and do a lot of critical listening.  I probably won't until next week some time.  My Fiio X3ii is a bit "boomier" at the low end then the Ipod 6th gen to me. The iPod is a little more airy and crisp and sounds more expansive to...

The FiiO X3 2nd gen (ex X3K, X3II) Thread : 192K/24B, CS4398,Native DSD, USB DAC with LO and inline remote

They ever going to update the firmware for this?  The 5800 file limit is just ridiculous. They have been releasing so many products lately you have to wonder how stretched their software people are.  The X1 and X3ii should have had this fixed long ago.

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

Just a thought-buy Dbpoweramp and batch convert all your FLAC to ALAC. In theory there should be no loss of information between FLAC and ALAC.  Dbpoweramp works great and it worth the $.

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

Convert all your FLAC to 256 aac, 320 mp3 or 245 vbr mp3 and just be done with it.  All 3 will most likely be transparent to your FLAC files. I just finished ripping all my cd collection to FLAC. I then batch converted everything to 245 vbr mp3 for my DAPs.  I use FLAC as digital backups to my cds.

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

Yeah, with that cable that is such widely available. No, I didn't.  Did not feel like trying to splice cables together or track down cables for it.  I think it is strange that a cable would not be included with the player, especially since it is about improved sound.  You'd think Neil would want...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

Hate to say I just sent the Pono back to Frys.  Yes, it sounded a little better, but there were just too many compromises I had to make just for slightly improved sound.  I will probably go back if they refine the player a bit more.  Also, the PonoRevealer made the decision easier as I couldn't...

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

Need to add, the new iPod is the same size as the old one.  My case from my 5th gen fit fine on the 6th gen.  I won't be able to spend a lot of time with the new one for a few days. I'll report what I find soon.  You may be right, but they don't even have an official balanced cable out for...

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

Picked up a 128gb iPod at lunch today. I'm on the phone getting a RMA number to return my Pono player to Fry's right now. You just can't beat the UI of the iPod for music and the Pono did not have the earth shattering sound I thought it would.

$399 Apple iPod Touch 6G with 128GB storage and A8 chip

The Ipod is "for" a lot of reasons.  If you have young kids who want apps but mom and dad don't want to pay for cell service the iPod is great.  It's an iPhone without the phone. It's the gateway drug to the iPhone.  In regards to music, the UI is the best out there for an audio player. There...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

Hmmm...I really don't want to do down that road but to be honest I find the high rez stuff to be irrelevant  to my ears. The high resolution track from Harvest that was included on the Pono sounded ever so slightly better (if I really made a point of concentrating and listening) than the 245...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

OK..here are very early impressions after spending an hour with the player. Player was 3/4 charged so I was able to play with it right away. I have not installed any software on my computer yet and the player came shipped with firmware 1.0.5.  I loaded a sandisk 128gb sd card.  It took about 20...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

Will do, I will open the player tomorrow and pop in my 128gb sdcard with 11,000 songs and see how it handles it.  If it is smooth and handles things well then I will probably keep it.     The "Apple thing" has nothing to do with it. Itunes is a pain in the rear and I would rather not...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

Just got my Pono from UPS today using the Fry's special. Haven't even opened it and Apple announces a 128gb Ipod.  My intention were to use the Pono as a replacement for all my cds on my home stereo.  You just can't beat the interface of Apple though for music- not sure what I will do now.

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

My tagging is fine. Spent the last 4 months converting my CD collection to FLAC and using mp3tag to get everything in order.  The Pono appeals to me because of the touchscreen and the ability to work in landscape mode. The triangle shape makes it perfect to sit on top of my main home stereo.  I...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

I bit. Got my promo code and it worked fine online- not tax and free shipping. :)  Didn't really want yellow but you can't beat the price. Can't wait to compare it to my Fiio X1 and X3 second edition.  I just hope the Pono can handle 11,000 songs in it's database.

    FiiO X7 | DXD | DSD | 384K/64B | ESS9018+ Android | WiFi | Bluetooth | 4 AMP modules | Balanced Out |

There are some really good Android music players out there. Wish someone like Fiio or another company make a good audiophile device where you can install a music player from Google Play.  An Fiio device using GoneMAD would be excellent.
