OK, so how do the Sennheiser MX-985 sound?   Direct into my iPhone 4S, they sound great.  They completely crush the Apple i-anything white earbuds, which actually sound very good if you use the black fuzzies which keep them more secure in your ears.  The MX985 have much better bass, dynamics...

My Sennheiser earbuds and JDS portable amp are very nice, but not insanely great.  My source is an iPhone 4S.   Given these levels of quality --  would a pricey LOD be likely to make an audible difference?   I am tempted to just get a $10 Fiio L3.   But not if I will be missing some magic...
