Teac Reference Line UD-501 USB DAC "DSD"
Using the balanced XLR outputs on this DAC is causing a problem (OK, a third world problem). The gain is so high on the XLR circuit it's difficult to use it together with powered monitors (Yamaha HS-8). As far as I know, there is no internal gain adjustment built into the unit. I could switch...- 147JK

Teac Reference Line UD-501 USB DAC "DSD"
Tough choice. I also have the HA-501. I know Schiit gear is very popular, plus it's US-made, which is great. But there is just something a little "unfinished" about it.. hard to put my finger on it. I'm sure the Schiit amp sounds fantastic, but between the two I'd be one to stick with TEAC...- 147JK

Classical music discussion, what do you like?
This one was an eye-opener for me. Kind of explains where Bach was probably coming from, ie, from somewhere beyond the trivia of daily life. -
DIY Cable Gallery!!
Not a big deal.. but a fun and simple little project. 2 "Y" splitter cables for my TEAC DAC made with Canare L-4E6S Star-Quad cable and Neutrik connectors.- 147JK

Faded OLED Displays
I am happy to report the operation was a success! The patient is out of the hospital and back in its place producing beautiful music again. A few notes on the process in case anyone wants to try this.. 1. The display I purchased (see post above) is very nicely made and the packaging is...- 147JK

Faded OLED Displays
I ordered this one and will have it tomorrow. Unfortunately TEAC made these so that very fine soldering is required here. Knowing how quickly these fail, a different type of connector would have been a better idea. Anyway, I'll let you know how to goes...- 147JK

Teac Reference Line UD-501 USB DAC "DSD"
Hi Don - the 501 doesn't have balanced outs for the headphones. But you can still use it with an adapter. Here is an example:- 147JK

TEAC UD-301
FWIW, I replaced my UD-301 with a UD-501. I never thought I'd be able to hear a difference in DACs but it seems I can. The 501 is better built through-and-through and isn't trying to be eveything at once - just a really great DAC.- 147JK

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
No, the 600 Ohm Beyer's are not realistically usable without some kind of desktop amp. A portable player just isn't going to do it. The AKG's might be OK, but not the Beyers. Check over at Massdrop - they normally have some good prices on amps that would work with the Beyer. Also, consider...- 147JK

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
They are both fine headphones. Beyer's are a little more "airy", bright, and detail-oriented. As a musician, you may appreciate hearing more detail as you will have a different appreciation for the music than than the average listener. One thing.. the DT's are 600 Ohm so a better amp would be...- 147JK

Classical is all I listen to. I have AKG's and I like them, but I went from them to the 880, and from the 880 to the T1. Classical can be very "detailed" music. The Beyer's bring all those minute details out.- 147JK

Teac Reference Line UD-501 USB DAC "DSD"
Hi, question for those who are working on the UD-501.. I purchased one in pretty good shape, except that some of a LCD pixels are weak and I'd like to replace the display. I don't have the service manual. Does anyone happen to know whether the LCD power is 5.0V or 3.3V? I've attached a pic...- 147JK

Beyerdynamic T70
I'm on the exact same track. I have the T1 (which still leave me astonished at their pristine clarity every time I use them) and now am looking for a pair for T70's to compliment the T1's for the "noisier" room. These 2 define the perfect set of headphones. I've sold everything else I had.- 147JK

Yes, correct. Where they slide in probably snaps apart, but I'm not going to risk breaking them trying to get them apart. This design has been around for decades - one would think this would have been fixed a long time ago.- 147JK

beyer t70 & t70p NEW!
Hello, do you know what the outer dimensions of the T70 original pads are? Some Beyers are 110mm and some are 100mm. Is the T70 100 or 110? Brainwavz sells a round pad that is 100mm outside dimension. I'm wondering if it will fit the T70? Thanks for the help- 147JK

It's not just the chrome edition - I have some T1's and they do it too. I'd open them up and tighten this, but (at least on the T1's) there are no screws on the headband where the yokes slide in.- 147JK

Hi, I'm thinking of trying the round Brainwavz pads on my T70's, whch I believe take the same pads size as the DT880. Can you confirm they are the same dimensions as the originals, and they fit properly? - Thanks- 147JK

New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation
Thanks for the replies. I was also thinking about the T70 for this role.. "second pair for the noisier room, similar to the T1's, except closed".- 147JK

New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation
Hi, does anyone here use the T5p exclusively for in-home use? I use a T1 at home with a quality desktop amp and it's great, but of course the T1 doesn't isolate AT ALL. The closed back of the T5p is what I need, but I'm not sure about the rest of the design - seems designed with mobile-use in...- 147JK

TEAC UD-301
Well after working with this for awhile, now I'm convinced it's not the DAC. It only happens occasionally when streaming music. When playing from a local source, it's always rock solid. Some bit of instability sourcing through the internet, I think. Will have to live with it..- 147JK

TEAC UD-301
Hmmmm yes that's what I am thinking. I wonder if the player (MusicBee) is getting wonky - sending syncing data but no content (wishful thinking on my part). Might have to pull the 301 out, malfunctioning after only 1 year(!) Super disappointing product.- 147JK

TEAC UD-301
Thanks for posting this. My 301 is starting to act up, and it's also about a year old. In my case, it's the same problem - digital signal looks fine, but analog just stops. It will always start OK then drop out at some random time later. If I restart the digital feed, it starts right back up...- 147JK
