iFi audio ZEN One Signature - be at One with your sound!
I am considering either the ZEN ONE Signature or the ZEN DAC V2 Signature as my first venture into BB world. I am aware that the main differences are - ZEN ONE: no volume control, additional inputs - ZEN DAC V2 Sig: volume control, USB input only My main criterium is sound quality. I am only...- jacobacci

Altiat CAL.1H — Official Discussion & Impressions Thread
I have been using the CAL.1H for several months now. Mine are dark grey aluminum. From the beginning, I really liked the soundstage of the CAL.1H. In fact I liked it so much that I treated myself to a symmetrical Lavri cable (Ultimate Silver Multistrand Litz awg 24 with XLR4 termination. The...- jacobacci

Chord 2Go & 2Yu Wired/Wireless Network streamer and S/PDIF adaptor - Official thread
Sorry if my questions have been answered somewhere in the thread already. I did not read through all the 352 pages. I have managed to access the 2go from the go figure app through bluetooth and configure Qobuz access. Using mconnect I am able to play Qobuz tracks. In order to go further I have a...- jacobacci

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread
I have a Chord Hugo 2 and I am very happy with it. Now I am considering getting a Chord Qutest to upgrade my second system. That system has active Piega P8LTD speakers. The setup I am considering is to set the Qutest to 1V output and then use Roon's digital volume control to adjust the volume...- jacobacci

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
Here I found some info on the HTC USB C to 3.5mm adapter. The translation is not great, but it seems to imply that the adapter does have a DAC that converts 44.1k and 48k. A Dragonfly Black is capable of 96kHz. The different Dragonfly models hat different output power (see the attached...- jacobacci

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I am using the XZ1 Compact (USB Audio Player Pro) with Oriolus Mk2 IEMs and the NAD Viso HP50 over ears. Both combos sounds fine. When adding an external DAC/amp and going from XZ1c -> OTG cable -> Chord Mojo -> Oriolus Mk2 / NAD Viso HP50, the sound quality does go up a notch. Better imaging...- jacobacci

Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆
I didn't read through all 1'000 pages of this thread, so please excuse me if my question has already been answered. I have a 4TB Seagate Backup Plus 2.5" harddrive with FLAC, DSF, MP3 and M4A music on it, which I would like to be able to play while travelling. Plugging both the harddrive and...- jacobacci

Resampling explained
It's not resampling during mastering I was referring to, but resampling that the Sony Xperia Z3 does whenever it plays back audio. Quote: At an objective level you are absolutely right, I shouldn't care about something that goes on below -100db. To me it's more a question of...- jacobacci

Android phones and USB DACs
Of course, you are right, I did mean resampling .... The "USB digital out" setting does not seem to be available in Lollipop anymore. The Dragonfly DAC gets detected automatically and audio is routed through it, when it is connected. Interesting and somewhat strange that with 4.4.4 the walkman...- jacobacci

Resampling explained
I know am unlikely to hear the difference between -130db and -150db, but it simply feels better to know that the resampling is producing the cleanest possible output.- jacobacci

Android phones and USB DACs
Unfortunately I am not subscribed to spotify, Tidal or Deezer. I have the Qobuz app, which streams @ 16bit/44.1kHz. Using Qobuz, volume can be adjusted with the volume buttons on the phone. I believe this adjusts the hardware volume inside the Dragonfly. Output from the Qobuz app to the...- jacobacci

Android phones and USB DACs
I haven't used the Walkman app before the update. I assume it is similar. It does however NOT have a specific menu point to chose a USB DAC for playback. The DAC seems to be detected automatically. The Walkman app resamples everything to 96kHz, which is quite serious in my eyes, as any...- jacobacci

Resampling explained
Thanks a lot, stv014. This is what I had always assumed to be the case, but was not able to confirm objectively. A reduction of artifacts level by 20db for integer vs. non integer ratio resampling is a very clear result.- jacobacci

Resampling explained
I realize this is an old thread, but it seems like the right place to ask my question. If using a polyphase resampler like SOX, is there anything to be gained in terms of computing power needed vs. audio quality achieved by downsampling in integer ratios rather than non integer, i.e. by going...- jacobacci

Android phones and USB DACs
Hi all I have upgraded my Xperia Z3 compact to Lollipop 5.0.2 and my Audioquest Dragonfly 1.2 was recognized immediately (using the Sony EC310 OTG cable and charging through the magentic charging connector). Using USB Audio Player Pro, the samplerate of the source material (88.2 and 96kHz)...- jacobacci

Ultrasone Edition 9 symmetric cable?
Hi all this is my first post. I have an Ultrasone Edition 9 and it has separate cables / ground for left / right. It would be easy to connect an XLR4 plug to the cable for symmetric operation. Has anyone tried this and is there any improvment to the sound?- jacobacci
