What's the IEM deal in Tokyo?
So, as it turns out, Not possible to stroll in somewhere to pick up a TG334 off-the-shelf in Tokyo. That being that, visiting next month (Dec 2016). What would be another interesting IEM to try/buy that is available off-the-shelf in Japan? Cheers.- level3

Ouch. Was hoping that Tokyo was the place. So, no chance (at all) for instant gratification? As in new universal off-the-shelf?- level3

Yes, I was. Tried sending back to England through retailer. Where it got stuck for almost 2 months due to some issues. Got it back. It's still not firing up. May I send it directly to you (with the power supply & cable)? If yes, we could take this to PM (if you prefer)...- level3

Good advice indeed, and yes, I know one might well have no other resort. I was just wondering if any other of the many users here had encountered such a scenario... and had found a solution. Thanks again.- level3

Chord Hugo
I appreciate the kind reply. In my case, the Hugo battery should not be running low because it was plugged into AC when I noticed the phenomena. Faulty power adaptor possibility: I have tested with another spare power adaptor. Same results as noted in post #13200. Puzzling...- level3

Thanks, paulchiu, will give it a shot. Seems to be that Hugo will not 'boot up'. > Not plugged to AC with power switch ON = all dark. > Not plugged to AC with power switch OFF = all dark. > Plugged to AC with power switch OFF = all dark. * Plugged to AC and switched ON: 1)...- level3

The AK320 thread
Somewhat ‘tricky’ Q ;) If you are asking whether there is a digital volume attenuation (DVA) sub-module in the 320’s DAC module data path, I would say the answer is: Yes... but, it should not audibly degrade signal output quality.- level3

The AK320 thread
I should have expressed it better. Generally speaking, when S/PDIF output via Toslink is initiated, the DAC is not in control of the incoming data rate/timing from the digital transport (in this case, the 320). As stated by teros1, most external DACs use buffers, clock(s) of their...- level3

Cannot comment on the 901s because I have not listened to music played by this DAP. For one listening impression of the PAW Gold, please flip a few pages back on this thread.- level3

It may be better for you to listen/play around with all the portable DAPs mentioned and decide. If your basic needs/wants are: 1) pocket-ability 2) standalone performance, including reference-level portable SQ in today’s context, and 3) adequate juice to drive the 335s… …then...- level3

The AK320’s 3.5mm port is also a mini-Toslink (optical) out. How you ‘plug in’ determines the output. 1) A 3.5mm mini-Toslink plug < cable > Toslink plug delivers raw signals to an off-board DAC (no internal 2x AKM4490 processing + 200 Femto-seconds clocking). To use the unit as a...- level3

You are welcome, catoval55. 2 last bits to clarify: 1) Are you using the Toslink <-----> Toslink cable that came with your Hugo? If yes, please look in the Hugo box for another short optical cable that is *mini-Toslink* <------> Toslink (thin white cable with two plastic black...- level3

If the issue is specifically 24/192 PCM file playback via Toslink to Hugo, please ask him to try/test using the 'freebie' mini-Toslink<---->Toslink cable that came with his Hugo. It should be in the box somewhere. It may not look like much but this cable from Chord should 'enable' 24/192...- level3

Interesting. If he can hear playback of lower bit depth PCM with the Hugo + AK320 combo via Toslink, then the issue may also be the compatibility of the Toslink cable/connectors... with regard to the Hugo and/or the AK320. Do you know if he was using the Toslink cable that came (as a...- level3
