Looking for a great $300-$500 open headphone
If you want a fantastic "pop" to your music with a fun sound, do try the DT990s. They have a big wide soundstage with incredible bass, extremely analytical sound. However, for a safer option just go with the the 600 (neutral) or 650 (slightly warmer + more bass) from sennheiser.- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
Hi all, sorry I hadn't had the time to respond, was quite busy. I'm using a DT990 pro 250 ohm with a fiio E07K as the DAC and and iCan Micro as the amplifier. Frankly, does the mids sound good on the HD650? Yes! It's sounds great! No arguments there at all. However, what gets to me is the...- brandonlyz

Beyerdynamic DT990 pro - what can I expect?
I own a DT990, and yes the treble and bass is accentuated, but the mids are still great! However, I cannot emphasize this enough. You need a good amp + high quality source files in order for them not to sound sibliant.- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
Actually I just went to audition HD650 yesterday, and I found that I still much prefer the DT990. I've realized that the HD650 vocals is really right in your face, whilst my DT990 is slightly pulled back and sounds further away. However, I felt that the instrument separation and bass on the...- brandonlyz

Help on sound signature of Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 600 ohm version
Personally, I would go with the 250ohm and save some cash. The 250 does have a higher clamping force, but you can always stretch them out using books. Also, the velour pads are really comfortable, and thus the higher clamping force would somewhat be negated. Also, the 600ohm ones would be much...- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
I'm glad you've decided to move up to the HD600! I'm also planning to upgrade to the HD650 after a few years after saving and scaling up my setup and my files , but now am extremely contented with my DT990 along with the 320 kbps songs. Hope you enjoy the HD600!- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
Hmmm Okay, you can choose to believe that, and I respect your opinion that a better amp will not make any difference. However, there are many reports that said otherwise, and it is up to you to believe in them. Furthermore, nobody is denying that the DT990 do accentuate the highs and the lows...- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
As mentioned by some of the members here, you have to understand that different headphones for different types of people. For example, you cannot expect to buy a HD800, leave it unamped, use poor quality sound files, and expect it to sound awesome. Even though the headphone is fantastic, the...- brandonlyz

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")
I would recommend that to get a slightly better idea, you should look at the frequency response curves of the individual headphones. They can be found on websites such as head room. However, the best judgement wound be reserved for you to simply audition them yourself. You need to understand...- brandonlyz

Desktop or Portable DAC / Amp? Best bang for the buck?
Hmmm there have been people saying that the schitt magni+modi combo is pretty good, whilst others recommend the O2 combo. I personally never tried both of these, and thus cannot comment on their quality. However, I bought the Fiio E07K as my starting amp/dac combo, and felt that it was a...- brandonlyz

Yes that's true. However, the OP was looking for a headphone that would still provide a kick even whilst using an unamped source, so I felt that the COP were probably the best way to go.- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
No worries at all haha, glad to always learn something new everyday :) This is a pretty wide misconception that many, including myself had, and thanks for clearing it up! Haha okay, let me rephrase my conclusion then, DT990s would sound great with an amp with a warmer signature :)- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
Nope, there is no tube in the iCan. However, the sound signature, I feel, is warmer as compared to the traditional solid state amps. The rationale behind me recommending tube amps is simply because they tend to be warmer sounding, and that IMO gives the DT990 an awesome sound.- brandonlyz

I really can't decide! Need opinions on around the ear headphones!
Actually I would look at Amazon reviews as well. Just make sure not to focus only on the "5 star" reviews, but also read the "1 star" and "3 star" reviews to get a complete opinion.- brandonlyz

Help on sound signature of Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 600 ohm version
I have no experience listening to the DT770s, but I do have the DT990s which I can share my experience with. Yes, some people do say that there is an improvement with the 600 ohm versions. However, most of them claim that it's only a minor change over the 250 ohm version, while the price...- brandonlyz

It really depends. How long will you be sitting at your desk every day? No point getting a fantastic desktop amp if you're only getting short bursts of time listening to it.- brandonlyz

HD600 vs DT990 Pro
Yup, totally agreed as seen in my first post. However, assuming that we're comparing amps that are equally capable of driving the headphones, I do have to say that the tonal balance of the amp will definitely play a role in the musical experience of the DT990s.- brandonlyz

If you're considering over/around ear headphones, may I suggest the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros? 16 ohms = No amping required, your portable music source will be able to drive them. Variable bass response = You can pretty much tune the bass to insane levels [Although it's not one size...- brandonlyz
