If you want a fantastic "pop" to your music with a fun sound, do try the DT990s. They have a big wide soundstage with incredible bass, extremely analytical sound. However, for a safer option just go with the the 600 (neutral) or 650 (slightly warmer + more bass) from sennheiser.

I own a DT990, and yes the treble and bass is accentuated, but the mids are still great!   However, I cannot emphasize this enough. You need a good amp + high quality source files in order for them not to sound sibliant.

Nope, there is no tube in the iCan.   However, the sound signature, I feel, is warmer as compared to the traditional solid state amps.   The rationale behind me recommending tube amps is simply because they tend to be warmer sounding, and that IMO gives the DT990 an awesome sound.

Actually I would look at Amazon reviews as well.   Just make sure not to focus only on the "5 star" reviews, but also read the "1 star" and "3 star" reviews to get a complete opinion.

Have not tried that, but after experimenting with a couple of different sound signatures, I've come to realise that my current setup is optimal for me :)   The concept does sound interesting though, may try it when I have the time.

It really depends.    How long will you be sitting at your desk every day? No point getting a fantastic desktop amp if you're only getting short bursts of time listening to it.

I know it's out of your budget, but perhaps you could try looking at the Shure 1540? Highly rated cans.

Yup, totally agreed as seen in my first post. However, assuming that we're comparing amps that are equally capable of driving the headphones, I do have to say that the tonal balance of the amp will definitely play a role in the musical experience of the DT990s.
