Finally got 205. Playing very well. Very different from other ESS implementation that I’ve tried. Yet to try with farad. Shockingly good with stock smps.

I had hugo2 in 2017-18 … then I tried onyx & I was impressed with tone & timbre … pavane was no brainer.

Eversolo a6 is meh imo. It was harsh, thin, pseudo high resolution. Typical of poorly implemented ESS sound. Now they have launched a8.

With proper implementation of ext upsampling the flaws you mentioned are pretty much corrected. HQP/PGGP upsampling have better results on true NOS dacs imo.

Single ended uses some kind of ICs to convert Bal to SE. Older units of pavane used trafo for conversion. Yea XLR>>RCA on my pavane. I’m using XLR to RCA cable with pin 3 floating with my tube preamp. This halves the vrms to 2 but has the quality of XLR output.

AFAIK, Weiss have updated the pictures in their manuals after Aug 1st. If you see Weiss 204 manual it is dated Aug 23. Previously, it was July 22. I guess Weiss have updated the PCB layout/numbering as well. I could be wrong. This is OEM 301.

204/205 has dac B of MAN 301 which was launched in 2014 (30th Anniversary). Original MAN301 users had an option to upgrade to dac B. Weiss 204 = INT 204+ Golden MAN 301 (DAC-B or mk2). Dac -B’s output stage is discrete & inspired from Weiss’s op1bp discrete opamps...
