Not exactly like your situation, as I'm using a PC based laptop and playing through JRiver, but in my case while my system does recognize that I have an 8x dsd capable dac otherwise no sound could come out, the sound that does come out stutters terribly. I'll probably send an email to IFI...- nplateau

@iFi audio also if there will be another firmware update, instead of just having an option where the sleep functionality is turned off altogether, maybe have an option where sleep and trickle charging come on after a longer pause as opposed to just a few seconds. I'm thinking anywhere in the 5...- nplateau

Knowledge Zenith (KZ) impressions thread
Well that's interesting. For me, the widebore JVC Spiral Dots have provided the best overall sound quality with the ZS5 (not a real fan of foams but others seem to really like the Comply 500). The spiral dots have tamed some of the bass bloat while retaining the crispness and clarity of the...- nplateau

I think that has probably been one of the main causes for my disappointment as well. So many great options out there under that price range that a miss is magnified. I hope you get to try the ZSE at some point. It's a really nice compliment to the ZS5.- nplateau

Don't worry too much. You may like them. My biggest issue with them is that to my ears the entire soundscape produced by them exists behind a thick veil. Maybe they stuffed too much damping foam or something down the nozzle? I'm not sure as I don't think the screens are particularly easy to...- nplateau

XDuoo XD-05 Portable Dac/Amp Introduction - Impressions
My good people... while I have and continue to enjoy the XD-05 (with Burson opamp), I recently purchased the IFI IDSD BL. Yes it costs A LOT more (even on some sales it doesn't usually go below $380). That said, it's worth every penny. If any of you are thinking about stepping up from the...- nplateau

Yup. And as far as ZST vs .ZSE.. if you find the ZST to be too bright, the ZSE might serve you very well if you don't mind giving up some of the sub-bass extension and prefer a bit more balance and neutrality.- nplateau

LOL! Nah, I wouldn't got that far. Especially with only about an hour of listening on them. They are definitely their own animal though, and to my ears they do present a surprising amount of balance and refinement. These aren't world beaters by any stretch, but they are really very nice for...- nplateau

Just received my KZ ZSE, and just comparing them with the Yinjw P8, I think the ZSE wipes the floor with the P8 in terms of overall sound quality. The only area where I think the P8 I think comes out on top is bass quantity.- nplateau

ZSE just arrived and only have about 5 minutes on them, so take this with a lump of salt. They resolve well and sound more U-shaped than V-shaped, with nice slam and though not the tightest low end, are without much offensive bloat. They don't have ZS5 or ZST sparkle, but on first blush, have...- nplateau

iDSD micro Black Label. Tour details (page 147). Release info (page 153).
Just received my IDSD BL and at first listen, there is a huge smile on my face. I didn't think my previous gear was particularly bad in any way, nor do I now, but wow the level of musicality, detail, air and space is just so pleasing. And to think it will get better as it breaks in. Best $379...- nplateau

@iFi audio, just checking out your refreshed site. There isn't any specific mention of the IDSD BL, but it seems that the IDSD itself has the same specs now as the BL. Is this the case?- nplateau

That space is filling up with some great DAP options. Along with the Cayin N3, there is the Shanling M2s (really nice looking) and the soon to be released Fiio X3MkIII (dual dac and balanced out!), both of which are about $50 more than the N3. It's a pretty sweet time for portable sources to...- nplateau

I haven't listened to any of the Benjie players so I can't comment on that. However, I don't think you'll find too many complaints about just how good the N3 sounds, especially at its price. The dac chip Cayin used and it's implementation is really good, and I think the N3 also outputs a...- nplateau

Off all the Chifi I have ordered and have, these are by far my least favorite. I don't know if I have bad copy or not, but let me explain my issues with them.
