I believe that this is just about having the more modern connector.

4th gens Classics use an HD with a different connector. They will support a CF or SDXC mod, but you're more on your own.   General note: unless you have the thick (i.e., 40GB) back, stay with CF or a Type I SDXC adapter. The tolerances appear to be a bit too tight for Type II adapters. (The...

    Small Amp For Ipod Mini

I'm not sure about the E1's power either, to be honest; I mostly drive IEMs with it. I figured that, for the price, it couldn't be too ba and introductory amp.   The consensus around here seems to be the Topping NX1 (which will probably be my next amp).   Whatever you do, definitely get a...

    Small Amp For Ipod Mini

A couple of the Fiio models are probably worth looking at. There's the E6 and, though considered an "aging toy", the E1. The latter being interesting for the fact that it combines LOD and amp in a single cable and is powered by the iPod.   Out of curiosity, what phones are you trying to drive?

Two questions:   1) Does a 4th gen see > 128Gb?   2) Does your 4th gen have a thin (20Gb) or thick (40Gb back)? When I tried to use a Type II adapter with a 20Gb 4th gen, I ended up shorting something out, so I've been concerned that there is slightly not enough clearance.   Thanks...

    The Xiaomi Pistons Thread 2.0

So, based solely on this comment, I decided to pick up a pair. Wow! These are good. How do they take to burn-in?   Thanks for the pointer.

I'm surprised there is a problem with an SDXC-CF adapter that works in a 4/4.5G iPod not working in a 5G iPod. As I understand it, the original issue was that early adapters didn't support true IDE mode which was required by the iPod firmware.   I suppose it's possible that older 4G iPods want...

Looking for simplicity in a DAP

I suppose the obvious question is what about an older iPod? Maybe an older Nano or a flash-upgraded Mini? Add one of the old iHome clock radios and you have a nice bedside setup.

Let me get this straight... The iPod Photo (4th gen color) will take a 256GB card? Does it see the entire capacity? Any idea if it is all usable?   4th gen owners want to know!   As for the Tarkan adapter, IO'm pretty sure it is Type II.   John

Go back about 60 years and we would have said the same thing about goods labelled "Made in Japan".   Young Doc: No wonder this circuit failed. It says "Made in Japan". Marty McFly: What do you mean, Doc? All the best stuff is made in Japan. Young Doc: Unbelievable. -- Back to the Future III

    Headphone Sightings 2

Saw a guy driving on the Garden State Parkway yesterday, wearing what looked like a pair of Audio-Technica monitors. Unfortunately, at the time, he was in the center lane, going 35, with his flashers on.

No, just a different market... I imagine that the target market is pro photographers shooting high pixel count RAW images. Probably no crazier than the TerraPod crowd.

A question which came up over on the MacRumors iPod forum... Anybody know the disk size limits of pre-5g Classics?   We were discussing whether an SSD could be, theoretically, shoehorned into a 4G classic.   Thanks...

That's why I was hoping that someone with a 256GB or 512GB SDXC would buy one and try it. If it turns out not to be limited to 128GB then that would be the path to the holy grail of a big SDXC card combined with a big battery.

I really wish Noodles or someone would take one for the team and see if http://www.ebay.com/itm/271582865453 would work with a card > 128GB.

The ideal would be a MicroSD-to-CF adapter, something like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231425252056?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT   This would have the lesser thickness of a Type I CF card (instead of Type II like the normal SD-to-CF adapter).

A little about the Shozy Alien

I definitely wouldn't have that many files in the root folder of a FAT32 disk. I think you may be bumping up against either a file system limitation or a bad implementation of the file system driver. If you want, try a single subdirectory with all 2000 files.

    My 32GB Flash IPod Mini

    1) Correct... no adapter needed if you use a CF card. 2) Except for possibly at the ends of the spectrum (very big or very small/old), any CF should work.

    My 32GB Flash IPod Mini

I think it's 400 in the 1st gen and 650 in the second (part of why the latter has longer life). There are what are probably legit ones up to about 780. I agree, though, that the 1300 and its ilk are probably half that in reality.

Pictures of Your *Budget-Fi* Portable Rig (< $200)

The only *really* tricky part is disconnecting the click wheel cable from the logic board. It's a matter of not applying force to the actual ribbon, but only to pry the connection apart. The iFixit guide should explain everything.   If you're considering either a CF or SD upgrade, though, I'd...
