Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

Did anyone ever figure out or discern a pattern as to why there seem to be so many people that complain of a lack of volume with these? If you google "asgard 3 volume" the first page has a number of similar cases. I went from a 2 to a 3 and had a similar experience. I still have the 3 with one...

    Hifiman HE400se

Unless I need a closed back, these have pretty well become my go-to headphones. Sivga Robin's for closed back. EQ yes, as was said. The only thing that still surprises me is how much power they seem to want. I have an Asgard 3 with whatever the recent "good" DAC module is, and while I'm sure...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

I run about +3db at 10 21 and 42 and +2db at 83, that's about it. I've run a lot of EQ settings on these over time and some are fun for some music, some not, but these are usually good for anything. I'm still very pleased with these when I pull them out and am always surprised how good they...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

Still my primary tethered cans. I have a few other keepers and I've had a few (more expensive) one's I bought tried and sold. K550's are quite good to me with a wee bit of EQ still.

    Sennheiser HD599 - first impressions.

$140 usd sounds high for the 599's at this point in their life, I think I paid a hundred bucks for the black amazon version last year. But that kinda thing varies quite a bit. I haven't heard the 770's but from all the reviews I've read I think the 599 is likely a good alternate/different pair...

    HiFiMan HE4XX

Just boxed these up for return after a week. They are great headphones for the money and I had no physical/build issues. Certain types of music, they are really, really good. But I find myself missing what I guess is midrange? Vocals seem recessed, and after swapping cans with these, my K550...

    Drop x HiFiMAN HE-5XX

After circling back around to headphones again after a year or so (rotating hobbies keeps things fresh), I've again come to the conclusion that each individual human being hears things differently, which pretty well negates reviewers impressions of a given set unless you've agreed with good...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

My open HD599's go bass shy if I pull them off my ears but not as dramatically as closed backs. Lack of seal certainly effects bass, more so on closed backs, I just haven't had much trouble with it on any of mine. Everything effects sound apparently, your ear shape, your head shape, the shape of...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

Any headphone you can press to your head and increase the bass(every one I've tried anyway), but that isn't practical or illustrative really, by that yardstick none of them have good seal. I've read since before I got them about the seal and bass issues with the K550 and I've just never...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

I'm pretty sure I ordered the black pleather ones, I don't recall there being such a selection when I got mine. That said, I didn't notice any real difference in sound, they were bass shy with the stock pads and are bass shy with these, seal has never been an issue for me that I can tell despite...

    Sennheiser HD599 - first impressions.

Came across this google'ing something, it's an interesting thought there being possible different versions. I've been headphone hunting the last week or two and therefore digesting huge numbers of reviews and impressions of a given model one after the other, spreadsheets may or may not have...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

Yeah, I mean like any can you can press them into your ears hard enough the bass picks up, but within reason they work ok for my head. +3db or so down low on the EQ and they sound full on the bottom to me without mucking up anything else that I can perceive.

Frankly I'm probably too ear-dumb to tell the difference. I EQ up the bass with Peace a bit with them for most tracks way beyond what I suspect the the earpads could ever do. Never really had much trouble with sealing on either set though I've read a lot of people do.

I used these, no issues, far as I remember they are about the size of stock ones. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076SGPZ2D

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

I bought a mint used pair of K550 MKIII for a hundred bucks or so maybe six months ago, stuck some Brainwavz XL pads on there, never even used the stock ones, and have been a pretty happy camper. They are bass shy for the non-flat-studio laymen like myself, but some pretty small EQ'ing made...

Does the USB Cable Matter (USB DACS)

That's an excellent attitude and I fully support every man being able to follow his personal philosophy and belief in all things if it's not hurting anyone else.

Does the USB Cable Matter (USB DACS)

Simple md5sum check should do it. Or this. http://archimago.blogspot.com/2013/04/measurements-usb-cables-for-dacs.html?m=1 I'm all for a person spending money and helping support the economy and such though, especially when it's money to people doing audio stuff. Just the other day I...

Does the USB Cable Matter (USB DACS)

The measuring ability of the range of sound able to be perceived by the human ear/brain does not lag in 2014. Even if it did, then it'd be admitting the folks making these high end cables were shooting in the dark to put it kindly. Sorry, my body of knowledge and experience as a technician and...

Does the USB Cable Matter (USB DACS)

If one can hear a difference, one can measure a difference. It's actually usually the opposite, human beings have really crappy hearing at the best of times. Anything else is faith and emotion.

Schiit Decrapifier released - USB power isolator

Some of you guys have the worst luck with USB audio.  The only two probs I've had with mine are pops when seeking and manually changing track position in some audio software(which I suspect turning off power management would fix but that isn't happening on a 200+ watt CPU), and occasionally...

Does the USB Cable Matter (USB DACS)

If  cable sounds different, better or worse, it should be measurable and explainable and repeatable.  This isn't magic. I personally hope I never hear the difference, because I really do not want to have to live with spending more than $20 on any given cable.  :)

Group Buy for full ATX Linear PSU from Teradak

Do we know at what point noise is a problem? My nice off the shelf switching unit is tested at 25mv@80amps on the +12 for instance, fair bit less with lower draw.
