Ottawa Regional meet - September 2015 - respond here
Hi, Depending on the number we could host it at Modern Sounds here in Ottawa. We have Audeze, Sennheiser, B&O Play, AudioQuest, Celsus Sound, NuPrime and Paradigm on-hand. You would be welcome to bring anything in for a listen of course. We might be able to get some industry people there too...- Point489VAC

It has been a while since I logged on this site and I've been playing "catch-up". The BHSE has been working flawlessly BTW. Very enjoyable! For those discussing balanced vs unbalanced connections here is an excellent summary...- Point489VAC

With that DAC you can run about 600' of cable without sonic degradation. The switch shouldn't do anything and it's fairly highly regarded. Still, the new run directly to the amp will be about 25 - 35' into a wall jack and then maybe about 5' to the amp itself. Shouldn't be an issue for true, pro...- Point489VAC

I don't think it needed it. The amp was spot on anyway. My meter reads to three decimal places and it was always about 0.1 +/-. Initial readings were a little off but after an hour of running it settled right down. Very easy to do. Not entirely sure how often I should do it though. I assume 200...- Point489VAC

I ordered mine on 02/27/2012 but that was simply the deposit payment. I picked the features and ultimately the colour at a later date. 05/12/2014 is when the final payment was made. The sound is wonderfully transparent yet totally relaxed and natural. It sounds quite realistic to me in that...- Point489VAC

I did have one ordered in silver but at the last minute, and after seeing Justin's photography, I asked him if I could switch to blue. It is, after all, a Blue Hawaii amp and I love Hawaii so... why not? I've been listening to this all day and it's just a great sounding amp. Well worth the...- Point489VAC

I'm using a Weiss DAC1 Mk3 FW as a source. It's rack mounted with all the home theatre equipment in another room about 25' away from my desk. I just purchased a Goldpoint XLR switcher to select either the Atma-Sphere amps in the music studio or the Blue Hawaii SE on my desk. I've still got to...- Point489VAC

All right! It's set up, hooked up, warmed up and biased (my first time biasing an amp and I'm still alive!). I'm listening to music through the amp and headphones right now for the first time. It's simply gorgeous. I'm getting fantastic sound from this great piece of equipment and I believe this...- Point489VAC

My very blue, Blue Hawaii Special Edition arrived today and I'm putting it together. Serial number 82! I've just got to say that the packaging is absolutely first rate and the fit and finish on the product is simply unbelievable. I'm totally impressed and extremely happy with the product and...- Point489VAC

Justin - I think it's wise to be small and "made to order". There are two modern successful models of business and they tend to be at opposite ends of the spectrum - small, design and quality driven businesses that create unique and exceptional products and enormous, mass produced, design and...- Point489VAC

See. There we go. We're off that nasty technical XLR (cable) discussion and back to good old "where's my BHSE" discussion. Sorry about that... I blame myself. In thinking about this we all know that there are many different companies that ask for 50% or even 100% up front when you order a...- Point489VAC

I'm also getting a kick out of this because at least it has changed the channel from "when do I get my BHSE"? I realize that by merely mentioning it I may however, have switched the channel back for some. Isn’t it a bit like Christmas morning though (or birthday, or whatever day one might...- Point489VAC

I'm pretty sure we are actually having a discussion about XLR connections on the back of the BHSE and not cables although tangentially, cables are involved. Balanced connections vs. single ended. Simply put, balanced connections have technical advantages that single ended connections don't and...- Point489VAC

I had a chance to tour The Site Recording Environment in Marin County, CA. as it was for sale recently. Of course at one time, it had lots of great "old school" studio gear from the glory days of recording including an extremely rare Neve 8078 console and Ocean Way Monitors along with many, many...- Point489VAC

Solid vs strand actually does have a sonic signature. There is a Swiss brand of cables - Vovox sonorus direct S and I've used their pro mic cable before. A little less transparent but a little more weight and body particularly in the midrange. It's a non-shielded cable so you need to be a bit...- Point489VAC

I think in general, balanced studio connectors are superior because they offer several advantages. You get common-mode-rejection which means no ground loops (no 60 Hz hum) and no RFI. If it's 600 ohm terminated you can also have long signal runs without any issues at all. You can also use stock...- Point489VAC
