Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

i've heard hifiman headphones and I feel they pair better with more amps than the sennheiser headphones do.  Sennheiser headphones can sound very good with the right dac/amp combo.  If you don't have the synergy they won't reach their potential.   A bigger soundstage doesn't guarantee a better...

    Jie Extreme Player 2.7.2 released

Thanks, trying to test it out but doesn't seem to want to work on windows 10 for me.  People keep saying how good it is but maybe I won't get a chance to hear it. :(

    Jie Extreme Player 2.7.2 released

This player doesn't seem to be on any of the links anymore, does anyone have links of it they can share so I can test this out.   Only recently found out that this player existed.  Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I read that those cables are japan made, so doesn't surprise me that they would be high quality.  I feel like sennheisers are quite good headphones, but the problem often is matching the right cables/adapters to get the sound you prefer out of them.  Those seem reasonable in terms of cost...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I looked further into headphone cables associated with HD-540s and other similar headphones in the sennheiser lineup.  I found information such as this which gets confusing about the headphone cables throughout the years.   For HD 400 series (except HD435, HD 445, HD 455, HD 465, HD475, HD477...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I understand, I saw your video of your prestigious collection of headphones.  Never heard the AKG 1000 but i'm sure they are something to be amazed by in terms of soundstage and musicality.  I think HD-800 is preferred with tube headphone amplifiers for the phase reason you mentioned but I can't...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Cosmomemory, i saw your youtube video of your collection and noticed something.  I was using the silver sennheiser headphone end adapter from 3.5mm to 6.35mm, didn't like the sound as much.  When I got one of the sennheiser adapters that was copper/gold color I noticed a more interesting change...

The FiiO E10K--all-new DAC and amp stages

Viper, I do hope you were using the hifiman velour earpads with your he-400s.  I know that the stock earpads are quite stinging to the ears treble wise and such with he-400s.

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Yea when i try different dac/amp combo's, it definately shows a difference in how the headphones sound.  I remember reading that people all hear headphones differently, so I'll just have to find the right combination I suppose.

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

CosmoMemory,  I have those same velour earpads from long time ago.  Don't have hd 560 foam in them but I do have the velour skin that looks similar to that.  I could never love the sound coming out of my HD 540 Reference I 600 ohm but I could respect the sound.  Perhaps, I'm in pursuit of a...

DIY seems like the way to go, can't blame you. Let us know how the progress goes, should be interesting.

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I recently got a pair of hd 560 earpads because i'm a velour fan.  I noticed that they are certainly thicker than the previous velour earpads that I had for my hd 540s.  Feels like the struggle continues for the right parts. :(

Petition for Sennheiser to manufacture replacement parts for the HD540 Reference II...

I agree, would be great if sennheiser would be willing to offer replacement parts for HD 540s.  +1

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Hairspray, I do agree that velour earpads seem to make the sound more shallow if you have the wrong type which I believe I do.  I do feel that HD 540s do require a specific dac/amp combo.  I feel like either Burr Brown (maybe Texas Instruments) or AKM dacs seem to produce a more enjoyable sound...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I wasn't aware of that.  Definately makes sense when you want to extend the longevity of a cable.  Thanks for the information Bostonears.  This thread had been quite informational on HD 540s.  I do notice that different headphone cables that I've used with HD 540s change the sound dramatically...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Thanks for offering up a link to the cable you use.  Since I have same cable as you, perhaps i should direct my attention to my earpads to get a different sound.  I have the velour pad replacements that sennheiser put on their site for the HD 540s in the past.  I'm using the JDS LABS ODAC with...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Yea, I'm using 037974 silver color cable and the timbre just doesn't feel right to me.  It might be copper cable with silver end since we can't see the inside unless we strip it.  I believe sennheiser would normally go with OFC for most of their cables.  I'd like to know exactly what cable is...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I checked headphone spares on sennheiser site and I could only find this cable (code 037974)   http://img-europe.electrocomponents.com/largeimages/R189282-01.jpg     The cable seems to terminate in a 3.5mm silver end instead  of the copper or gold end I'm used to seeing from other sennheiser...

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

I did check Sonic Electronix but I could only find the silver cable for HD-540 Reference I 600 ohms.  Sorry, but I think I'm confused on where to find it on Sonic Electronix site.  I would appreciate any help in finding a specific link to the OFC cable.  I do appreciate your reply before.

Wow! Sennheiser HD 540 Reference are so good.

Hello all, I've been following this thread and gained a lot of good information about hd 540s.  I, myself, have the hd-540 Reference I 600 ohms version.  I like what most of you have to say about it.  I do have the silver/steel cables and I'm not a fan of the sound that much.  I would like to...
