Do you hear the difference? A test

So easy, I immediately knew B was the 128kbps after 3 seconds The vocals sounded very off compared to the 320kbps, it's not as sharp and you can hear some slight 'distortions' when he reaches the high pitches. And as other people, said, there's less 'air' and soundstage in B

    ATH-AD900 first impression

Me too, except I find that the K701 does everything much better than the AD900 - I found the AD900's a bit harsh in the treble. The K701s with the right amplification blows the AD900 away in terms of detail, instrument separation, impact and timbre

Just got my ATH-A900! Help please!

Well you really should be connecting it to a DAC or through RCA, but for those like me who hasn't got one (and soon will be :P), we plug it in the speaker out. Volume should be 100% because otherwise you will be amping a lower volume signal from the soundcard, which will then increase distortion...

    New headphones.

MS-1s are great for rock and alot of the other genres you listed. However, expect them to be horrible at classical and opera

    Complete headphone newbie- completely lost

Let me tell you, once you use higher quality headphones, you'll realise how pathetic surround sound is for precision and accuracy For your connectivity...you really should plug your A900s into the headphone jack of the hi-fi (if it has one). I don't know what your Hi-fi is so can't comment...
