With modern equalizers you would have to be nuts to actually perceive an unwanted distortion.  I do not even know if there is recording hardware that can capture the distortions produced.

Earforce DSS would get you surround cheap (paid $17 used online), definitely works with PS3! M100 is also a good headphone, but it is likely over your budget. Not sure of any other 'trendy' headphones that sound good, and are full sized haha

Severity depends on the software and the hardware used.

I recabled my stock DT880s with some tapped alumium foil.  Smoother treble, midrange is a tad forward, much better than stock!

A USB-DAC + Razer surround software might be something to consider. Works well once setup, and imo USB DACs are better value money wise.

V-Moda M80 + Boom Mic addon.  Fits your budget, looks great, sounds great, bass is definitely there!  Portable, and comes with a nice hard case.  Microphone is really good compared to headsets. You cannot have true surround sound on most headphones, but you could use a source with Dolby...

Yulong U100 might suit your needs, definitely on the smaller side compared to similarly priced USB-DACs. Sounds great as well!

Forgot to mention the AD900x, MA900, DT990, and X1 are good 'open' options for the genres you listed.  Assorted from least to most bass heavy, but none of these have an overblown 'basshead' sound

A900x is a great headphone, and can occasionally be found in the $100-$120 range.  Bass is not overblown, but is satisfying.  Vocals are really nice, comfort is excellent for most.   You might want a sealed headphone for PC use.  Open headphones are a bad idea with a noisy PC  

This!  I would probably have someone reterminate the cable for me if I knew this was a one time thing, just because the D7000 is so expensive haha
