Well it doesn't have to be the shure 440. I just wanted to say that investing in a better source will give him better price/sound ratio. And for 100$ you can buy excellent headphones and a good soundcard(or amp).

I would suggest you get a sound card for 100$ and shure 440. Very balanced and clear sound.
