Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Thanks a lot! Very helpful information. I didn't expect that the KSE1200 with sp1000 clips even at 0.7v level line out. Was this the main reason you switched to the Sony 1z? Yeah, I know SP1000 doesn't have a true line out. Probably the miss-matched impedances between the SP1000's line out and...- Leexu

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Just to double check, the SP1000 provides line out voltage value as low as 0.7v, and you will need to activate line out button on the volume panel. And when you activate the line out button, the volume is not adjustable. So the KSE1200 has clipping sound even you set a voltage to 0.7v?- Leexu

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Thank you so much! Yeah, I also think the KSE1200 is a better option to pair with the SP1000. I am not very confident with KSE1500's DAC, but sklonchpower just pointed out that the KSE1500's line out is worse than its digital out even when connecting with a Hugo. Probably I will need to try both...- Leexu

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Thank you for your replyI Yeah, I am still struggling with which one I should get. The 1500 or the 1200? Probably I should try them first.- Leexu

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Thanks! It's good to know the details. So now it is really a disappointment to hear that KSE series' line-out input is not as good as it usb input, which seems to push me away from KSE1200. I use SP1000 and its internal dac is supposed to be better than the KSE1500's. And now the choice becomes...- Leexu

Audio-Technica ATH-ESW950 and ATH-ES750
ESW950 has a 42 ohms impedance, but ESW990h has a 60 ohms impedance. Not sure if they have different sound signature. Mine is a pair of ESW990h, always want to get a pair of 950s because they are easier to drive.- Leexu

Audio-Technica ATH-ESW950 and ATH-ES750
Seems esw 990h is not very popular here. I am using it with the upgraded ATH cable, paired with an SPK copper. I find the sound very refined and enticing. The most important reason is that it is easy to drive. One of the best portable headphones.- Leexu

Also, the interconnect cable matters a lot for line out, but the quality of usb cables is less important.- Leexu

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Thanks for sharing your experience. Just double check, did you connect it to the source's line out or phone out? My understanding is that if the source has a better DAC than the KSE1500's, line out will be better than usb.- Leexu

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Oh, I forgot to mention that it is much easier to find a matched "portable players + earphones" than building a well-tuned speakers system, coz the latter require a lot effort to pick every single component. Even for active speakers, you still need to find ideal cables (Wireless is just not that...- Leexu

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
I am also interested in the LS50 to replace my B&W speakers system coz active speakers are such an ease to use (no interconnection cables, amps, etc.). I think earphones, headphones, and speakers have very different ways of delivering sound, and they fit different occasions. And I don't know if...- Leexu

New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
Congrats on your new purchase. People believe that sp1000 needs 100+ hour run-in, though there seems no officially recommended long burn-in time. Actually hardwares may not need a long-time run in. Even for speakers, B&W mentioned in their manuals that speakers may need 10+ hours to achieve the...- Leexu
