The Stax Thread III
Sure. A 5.1 kOhm resistor dissipating 1/4 W will have a voltage drop of 36 V(rms) and and 7 mA(rms) current running through it. That's not much, and I'd guess it's not enough to run a headphone properly. The usual recommendation is to use a 2 W resistor. But, again, I (and others) may be...- mbrennwa

The Stax Thread III
Can you share a circuit diagram or drawing? I guess this stuff is relevant for safety, and a mixup of the connections might turn out bad. Also, 600 V limit would correspond to about 400 Vrms for a sine signal (again, depending on the Zener connections). 400 Vrms through 5.1 kOhm is about 80 mA...- mbrennwa

The Stax Thread III
I have a High-Amp Alpha Centauri and wrote a review about it in a German forum (here). This is an English translation (via Google translate): After I've been using my Alpha Centauri (AC) for a few days now (with Stax X9000), here's a first report. Andreas Rauenbühler sent me the AC to...- mbrennwa

The Swiss Head-Fiers official census
Just stumbled over this thread. I am in Zurich. I have not read the full thread (yet), so I may be missing stuff. Are there any meetups or other things I shouldn't be missing?- mbrennwa

Calling all European headfiers!! Interest check for a meet
I'd be interested if the meet would be located in central Europe. I am in Zurich/Switzerland, and won't travel by airplane, but train or bicylcle (yes!) would be okay.- mbrennwa

Stax SR-X9000
I am looking forward to the X9000 measurements and the EQ settings! Please do let us know what you get. Will it be possible to compare the Accurate Sound measurements with measurementns from the miniDSP EARS? I wonder how consistent they are.- mbrennwa

HeadAmp Grand Cayman DHT Electrostatic Amp
What do you mean by "...to modify it"? As I see it, the amp is designed around a DHT output tube with a 20x voltage gain, and there is no other DHT with similar specs. The next best DHT that comes to mind might be a 801 or 10 tube with a gain of 8x, which is more than two times lower. Other...- mbrennwa

HeadAmp Grand Cayman DHT Electrostatic Amp
The Emission Labs 20B is unique in that it has a voltage gain of 20x. As far as I can tell, there is no other DHT that would provide similar gain*, so replacing the 20B with another DHT will not work. How future proof is the 20B? How are people going to replace their 20B tubes once they get old...- mbrennwa

DIY/T2 Electrostatic Amp Thread - General
I looked at this thread, but much of the good stuff is in the files attached to these posts. These files can only be downloaded by registered Head-Case users. I applied for an account, but it did not get validated. I think the admins may have missed it, and I have no clue how to get in touch...- mbrennwa

DIY/T2 Electrostatic Amp Thread - General
If it were due to the PCB upside down, this would mean the pinout for the XLRs on the PCB are reversed. That would be an issue with the PCB design. However, these XLRs look like the chassis-mount type, not PCB mount. It should be trivial to turn them around.- mbrennwa

DIY/T2 Electrostatic Amp Thread - General
I am considering to get a DIY T2 amp. I am open to get a second-hand fully-built unit, or making one from scratch. Can you guys provide pointers to second-hand units or parts sources (PCBs, chassis/cases, BOM lists, etc.)? (I am an experienced DIYer, so no worries there -- just a question of...- mbrennwa

Audeze LCD poor comfort – any mods?
Hi all My Audeze LCD 3 aren't exactly comfortable. They hurt on the top of my head, so I can't use them for listening session much longer than 30 minutes or my head will hurt for the rest of the day. My reference of headphone comfort is my Audio Techica ATH 700, which has a clever "split"...- mbrennwa

Braiding long cables
No, identifying the strands is easy. I wonder how the braiding process itself is done. I am loosing my nerves with juggling the wire spools, especially if the cable is longer than a metre or two.- mbrennwa

Audeze LCD-X
I did a comparison of the LCD-X, LCD-2 and LCD-3 in a local shop yesterday. I ran the LCDs off my Linnenberg u:c:a MK2 DAC/HeadAmp using a MacBook with Audirvana software. The LCD-2 was a shop demo, so it was probably broken in fairly well. The LCD-X was broken in specifically for the test by...- mbrennwa
