It is most likely copy protection on the CD. There are a few discs out there that are problematic and I've had worse luck with imports (especially from Asia). Ripping these CDs is very dependent on your disc drive. Some manufacturers have a record of their drives being able to rip copy...

The disc could have some sort of copy protection on the CD side that is preventing the CD from being read. Try updating your disc drives firmware and see if that helps.
