I suggest you ask your other half to plug any cable and put the phones on your head herself, then swap cables (or not !) and see what happens!

What's wrong with the stock cable? I've read the review, the linear resistance being high (I am an electrician so I get it), but it just sounds fine to me.

For that kind of sound, you should try Dr Dre's Beats Pro headphones, which sound really great. But of course they will be rather dreadful on anything else... Just my pennyworth.
