I use UE900 silicone tips. The T-500 tips are nice and comfy, but are more difficult to insert and have to be cleaned/replaced regularly.

    Doodlebug - USB Isolator

There are only three 24 ohm resistors and three 0.1uF capacitors listed on thr BOM.

Here's a cheap wall wart on Amazon, if anyone's looking!   http://www.amazon.com/AC-AC-ADAPTER-9VOLTS-1000mA-2-1mm/dp/B00ATECBMM/ref=pd_cp_e_0

Sorry, just to clarify, the power can also be 6-9 VDC? Or is it limited to 6-9 VAC?

    I'm such a newbie. ..

Personally, I use HDTracks.com and similar sites, since they offer high quality files. Usually, though, I just buy physical CDs and rip them. That lets you rip it into any file type you want, up to a lossless 44.1/16 file, which is better than most download sites! Plus, you get to have a...

    The "Trident" interest thread

I'm definitely interested! I know this is being made in the spirit of the PPA, but has there been any thought on exactly what kind of output power this would have? And (dare I ask) final cost?

    Amps

Well, my recommendations were based on the assumption that you want something cheap and neutral, and in retrospect, I totally recommended you stuff I've never even listened to before! Just a heads up, so that you don't go buying something on my word alone.   The Schiit Magni is pretty cheap at...

    Amps

Honestly, I'd be fairly surprised if you can even get a decent volume! I don't know what 990's are like underamped, but generally I believe underamped headphones have a smaller soundstage. If you want portability, an E12 might be the best bet (over 4 times the power at 32 ohms). Other desk...

Your headphones are 250 ohm impedance? Probably won't do you much good... But try them out, and return if you don't like it!

Mr. Speakers Mad Dog 3.0 - 3.2 Amp Pairing Recommendation/Discussion Thread

If you're not looking for portability, a used Schiit Magni would be good! Personally, I power my Mad Dogs from a Fiio X3, and it's pretty good on high gain. I'll use an amp for more critical listening sessions, though.

DAC/Amp question, help topping fiio with schiit?

While it's very likely you know more about this stuff than I do, here's an engineer's opinion:   I find it really improbably that you'll be able to find an amplifier that will power both headphones and speakers with any sort of quality. Or, at the very least, I can't think of any headphone...

    I'm such a newbie. ..

Welcome to Head-Fi! Sorry about your wallet...   That's how it usually goes, but just starting out, it doesn't have to be that way! My advice for someone new is to focus on the music. Find music you love, and get good quality versions of it (no mp3s)! If you can, rip music from CDs as flac...

    Headphones louder in one ear

Sorry, but it really really sounds like you have a hearing problem. A pitch test should only test your ears' range, not any volume issues. Go see a doctor and get tested!

Can anyone recommend a more science-friendly headphone forum?

Actually, I'm surprised that this site doesn't have more of this! We've got tons of threads about pairing headphones and amps and dacs, but why not include music genres, drinks, and sofas? They make as much difference!

First step into good audio gear

Hmmm... If I were you, if you bought these new, I'd ask for a replacement pair; they're really shouldn't have that kind of issue! If that's not an option, and you're handy with a screwdriver, I'd open up the headphone and look for anything interfering with the driver.

First step into good audio gear

Whoa! Well, first off, congrats on finding phones you like! Something like that is probably driver related somehow... either the diaphragm was out of place, or something was resting against it, I would guess. What do you mean by 'sudden jolt'?

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

First step into good audio gear

I have a Fiio X3, but I haven't tried it with these cans... But if I were making the choice, I'd go 80 ohms! Technically, the X3 can work with up to 300 ohms, but if you don't need to push it, then I wouldn't. I'm not sure the 250 ohms would be useful with something besides a high output...

Introduction and some advice if you may.

Glad we could help! Yes, I like the Fiio X3 VERY much, it's a very impressive player, especially for the price. Just a thought: the X3 (and similar) have very good DACs incorporated in them, and, assuming your Pioneer has RCA inputs, a 3.5 mm to dual RCA cable from the Line Out of the player to...

Introduction and some advice if you may.

It really is a tough choice between speakers and headphones! And, honestly, if you have the budget, I would have both available. I inherited a Phillips surround sound system, and though it cost several times what my headphones did, it doesn't have nearly the detail, balance, or (of course)...
