I'm wondering if this mod will effect the service life of the drivers? What was the original design purpose of the bass port plug? I'm going to try it. Might even get a newer pair of 701s just to mod.

K701s are difficult to DJ with, I've tried. Closed backs are better for DJ work. You'd definitely want an amp for the 701s if trying to use with a phone, iPod, etc.

I've had the k701s a little over five years. Great phones if paired with the right amp, tube or ss. Mine have no gaps in construction. I use them for some mastering (esp vocals) and personal listening too.
