I have similar experience with my DT880 (600-Ohm) and the DX90.  The sound is adequate but one could hear the DX90 struggle with loud passages of classical music.  My solution: I use an external amp.  So far, my favourite is the Quickstep 2 and it's heaven!

There is the case if I don't like the sound signature of the internal amp and would like to by-pass it.  That is when I would like to connect the LO to an external amp.  For me, an external amp would be something transparent and neutral to let the DX90 DAC shine.

  Yes, I was thinking the same.  If only iBasso could make the back plate a bit deeper then someting like a 4400mAh battery could be accommodated.

Yes, I can vouch that the DT880 is very good, especially the 600-ohms variety.  I will, however, listen to the HE-500 and might get this one as well.

Hi there!  I don't know about your combination but mine (DX50 + PB2 + DT880) sounds heavenly.

Agreed:  A little physical distinction from the DX50 like 2-mm thicker to accommodate a thicker battery and, who knows, a second and/or third microSD card(s).
