Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
Yeah could be. Class A but fairly low power, so hopefully not _too_ hot... If you put an out stretched palm 3" away, do you feel the heat?- FLguy

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
Some have mentioned that the DAC chips are being run 'warm' in this DAC... Is it noticably a space heater? How hot does the case get? Could someone please take and post some case temp measurements?- FLguy

Ampsandsound Kenzie/Mogwai Impressions
Someone reminded me today that I forgot to post a follow-up to my post regarding the sound of the Mogwai SE via the 8 ohm headphone jack vs the sound through the speaker taps. Sorry about that... The comparison got side-tracked because I wasn't entirely satisfied with the sound of the speaker...- FLguy

Interesting... does this configuration produce noticeable background noise, or does the reduced gain eliminate or greatly reduce the potential for background noise when using a high power amp?- FLguy

Fwiw, I would prefer an Orlando area location, if that's an option (or did I miss that?). I might be able to make it to another location, depending. I have a few odds & ends of gear Items I'm thinking of bringing if I can make it include the following: * Hugo 2 * Mogwai SE, Stax SRM-T1...- FLguy

Thank you to those with experience with many models for posting your impressions and rankings - it is very valuable to those who haven't had the chance to hear as many different models (yet). I also would like to know where the 007 MkII falls in these rankings. (That model is much easier to...- FLguy

Ampsandsound Kenzie/Mogwai Impressions
Great info, thanks. I'm still likely to switch headphones at some point (although I may take my time to figure out which direction to go, esp to pair with the Mogwai), so I'm not sure whether or how I'll want to tweak the amps signature just yet. Regarding the Utopias, I understand that there...- FLguy

Ampsandsound Kenzie/Mogwai Impressions
@me2621a, I've had a chance to go back and read your impressions on the TS 6SU7 - both in this thread, and in the NOS 6SL7 thread. Thanks for posting those. It sounds like you found the 6SU7 and the 6SU7/6550/SED Black plate combo to be more resolving, and overall preferred them vs some other...- FLguy

Thanks for the links. Going to try those or similar... Nope, I haven't tried the Tung SOL 6SU7 or the RCA 5691 - maybe down the road... Busy now, but I'll check to see if you've posted impressions of those tubes in this amp yet. You know, now that you mention it, it looks like the Mogwai I...- FLguy

Thanks for posting the review. I agree entirely regarding the quality of the amp - and your point about the location & orientation of the connectors. If you're still reading this thread, would you mind posting links to the right angle connectors which you used? They look good, and appear...- FLguy

I hesitated about posting anything on this, thinking that plenty has already been written regarding this amplifier by several 'trusted ears', with more & better equipment than mine for comparison - and no doubt more eloquently written. I finally decided to add my $.02, since I learned a couple...- FLguy

Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) - Dropping Monday
I've mostly used the MCTH in the following system... 1. APC UPS 2. Dell laptop PC (USB output) 3. Matrix S-SPDIF 4. Balanced XLR (Cardas Clear Light) 5. Brooklyn DAC (powered by HDPLEX LPS) 6. RCA cables (Cardas Clear Light) 7. MCTH + Tube Monger Socket Saver 9. Chinese 6c8gs adapter 10. 6c8g...- FLguy

Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) - Dropping Monday
As far as I can tell, I'm using the same components referenced by Phantaminum, with the addition of a second set of tubes (RCA), although I'm now back to Tung Sols. The end result is that I've tried 2 different sets of tubes, and heard no hum with either. A couple of variables which I will...- FLguy

Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) - Dropping Monday
FWIW, it seems that there may be other factor(s) at work than just the headphone impedance and efficiency...I tried this mod with a pair of LCD-X (impedance around 20 ohms, 103dB/1mw), and I cannot hear any hum at any volume level. YMMV of course.- FLguy

The Stax Thread III
For what it's worth, the last paragraph of this post from JimL may be of interest. "The 006 is basically the T1 with currently available transistors, the 007 is basically the T1 with double the number of output tubes (but only 40% more standing current), and the 600 [006?] is basically the T1...- FLguy

Stax SR-L300 Impressions Thread
Awesome - thanks for the info & impressions. I have a pair of ESP950s which I rather like - and I agree with the description of them as somewhat less bright than most Lambdas, although still very detailed. I wouldn't exactly call them laid back given their speed, detail, and impact, but I think...- FLguy

Can you say more about how the L300LE compare to your ESP950s? For reference, do your ESP950s have the original pads, or 3rd party pads (like the Vesper)?- FLguy
