Audio-GD NFB-12
Yeah, I had an issue with the transformer too. Despite the unit being at least 5 years old at the time, 2019 as I recall, Audio GD were really quick to respond. They offered to replace the part for a nominal amount as long as I covered shipping. I'm in New Zealand, and have no technical...- StiltsNZ

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
What pads are you using? I can't recommend the fenestrated Dekoni pads highly enough! They've made my Beyer 880s as good as anything else in their price range.- StiltsNZ

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
Agreed. Plus they are really, really comfortable. And they stay on your head when head-banging. That's my biggest issue with my HiFiMans (400i) - i.e. whenever the twin-kicks hit, I lose them off my head... Oh, and I invested in the Dekoni hybrid pads for my AK7xx - absolutely worth it. Did...- StiltsNZ

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
AU-555A - only 30W per channel, but powerful enough that I never take it past 10.00 on the volume. The headphone output is directly connected to the speaker outputs internally, so you get full noise. Great for my high impedance Phones.- StiltsNZ

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
My DT880 600ohm is still my go to for almost everything - run through an Audio GD NFB-12 DAC, which sounds great as a headphone amp, but when run as a DAC into my 1972 Sansui, as good as any flagship HP I've heard. All for less than NZD$1,000- StiltsNZ

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
I see you're running Morrow interconnects - do you notice a significant difference with those? What are others using as interconnects? Oh, the other thing I'm considering is replacing the spring clips with binding posts for the speaker connections - not that I'm using the Sansui for...- StiltsNZ

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
I inherited my uncle's Sansui AU-555A a couple of years ago and (regretfully) neglected to get it serviced until two weeks ago. Far flippin' out. Why for the love of God did it take me so long? I now have it hooked up at work PC (Foobar2000) > Audio-gd NFB-12 > Sansui AU-555A > Beyer 880s (600Ω)...- StiltsNZ

Audio-GD NFB-12
Just received my NFB-12 from a fellow Head-Fier - although he listed it as an NFB-11... and you know what? I stumble into this thread and see that it may well have been serendipitous. I'm using DT880/600 ohm cans at work, and my little O2 just wasn't cutting it. I am BTW planning to get my...- StiltsNZ

NAD D1050 DAC and headphone amplifier
I have the O2 ODAC and am looking seriously at this as an upgrade. Can anyone tell me if it is significantly better? Similar? I'm running 600 ohm Beyer 880s, so need more power than the ODAC can produce.- StiltsNZ

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
Why have I never used that button before??? I figured it was for the external speaker port... BUT... Shaffer is absolutely right. If you use the gain switch, it amps the volume, but kills the quality. Just listening for a couple of minutes (to Shadow Gallery, featuring LaBrie on...- StiltsNZ

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
Forgive my ignorance, but I run my 600 ohm 880s through the O2 and find it handles anything comfortably. I barely have to push the volume past 1-2 o'clock. I am unaware of how you would adjust the gain on it - can you explain both how you would do that and more importantly, why, when it handles...- StiltsNZ

New Zealand meet, May 24th in Auckland
Alrighty then, I just had a chat with Terry and he is really keen to host a small meet at his place . He will be away in France for a while though, so is not back until the 12th of July. He is happy to set up table for our gear, he has his Monaural amps and DAC, plus a few Audeze cans. He...- StiltsNZ

New Zealand meet, May 24th in Auckland
Thanks to everyone who organised the event (particularly NZTF) and brought gear along. I was surprised at how the limitations of my Beyer 880s were exposed when compared with the T1's, Senn's and those awesome HE6's. I was however very happy with the way my O2 DAC/amp stacked up against most...- StiltsNZ

Digital source for headphone and 2 channel setup
Cambridge Audio 752BD - if you can squeeze a local retailer down on price, I'd go for that over the Oppo. If price is no limit - go for the Electrocompaniet EMP3. Audiophile nirvana. I will own it one day, oh yes, it will be mine...- StiltsNZ

New Zealand meet, May 24th in Auckland
Woohoo! Thanks for organising this! I grew up in Mt Roskill, so I know the Fickling Centre well. Would be very keen to come along and I'm happy to bring my set up - really simple - 600ohm Beyer 880s and JD Labs O2 amp/DAC - though I'm now having to re-rip all my CD's into FLAC or WAV, since my...- StiltsNZ

Aussie & NZ Head-Fiers Corner
Just stumbled across this forum - glad to see there are some other Kiwis seeking audio nirvana. It's ridiculous how much rubbish people wear on their heads around Auckland. There's only one (maybe two) retailers that stock decent cans (Stereoworld in Mt Eden has just expanded). I got my Beyer...- StiltsNZ

Help! Budget AMP worth of Sennheiser HD600, HD800, HiFiMan-500, DT880... ???
I have the 600 ohm DT880s and have the O2 amp/DAC combo from JDS labs. Very flat neutral sound IMO, missing a little something, just not sure what. Maybe a bigger better amp, which costs a whole lot more. The O2 has heaps of power for running the headphones and the internal DAC is a welcome...- StiltsNZ

AKG Q701 vs Beyerdynamic DT880
Let me preface this by saying I am a huge prog and prog-metal fan. Any decision about which cans to go for has to take into account the type of music you listen to. I think a lot of people presume that if their type of music doesn't quite work with a particular headphone, then the headphone is...- StiltsNZ

The Future of Headphones
I was initially going to say cochlear implants that will resonate the ear bones directly, rather than via airborne soundwaves, but then you'd have the issue of wireless transfer. As good as that is getting, there is just too much interference for that to ever truly satisfy the audiophile. That...- StiltsNZ

Best Prog Metal Cans for ~$250
BUMP. I am a huge prog and prog-metal fan. Most of my listening nowadays is via my laptop at work. My Sony MDR somethings have cracked and I figured it was time to upgrade. And so the search began... I have spent the last three weeks going around the interweb and have determined...- StiltsNZ
