Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Maybe MCRU from UK can provide it. I will ask. But what am I looking for in the way of specifications on a hdmi cable to connect the ET-3 to the Denafrips Pontus II dac? I appreciate the help :)

Thanks. I see it involves a purchase directly from China… no European seller offers a similar cable?

DENAFRIPS FPGA Firmware Update (12TH Anniv.)

Totally agree. Most of the components in my system have more than 10 years.. up to 25. In my experience newer rarely better. But if one can experience better / different through a software update, then let’s try it (if it can be reversed, of course) … like testing different electronic setting...

DENAFRIPS FPGA Firmware Update (12TH Anniv.)

My question exactly… is there something to improve on the Pontus II? I use the v1.0 and I am happy, but… :)

To all ET-3 users with a Denafrips dac: does the I2S connection works without problems? Thanks :)

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I wonder how many members participating in this thread use the ET-3 and how many have a problematic unit… It will be interesting (especially for the brand) to know if the problems are more software or hardware (drive) related.

L.K.S SRC100 DAC Up Frequency Box (Coaxial to I2S sample rate converter)

I just found out about this little box, and I wonder if it can be an improvement to connect a Audiolab 9000CDT CD transport (coaxial digital output only) to the Denafrips Pontus II dac I2S input?… also explore some upsampling possibilities… Anybody tried this $110 little box? L.K.S SRC100 DAC...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Perhaps Shanling could launch also the ET-3S (“S” for simple), with a better and more basic display arrangement (like those already suggested in this thread) and without all extra features, like streaming, bluetooth, airplay, etc… Just a straightforward CD transport :) I guess that the power...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I have the R2R Denafrips Pontus II dac, and I am thinking about the ET-3 to explore the dac’s I2S input… so what will be the problem using the Shanling’s DSD upsampling feature on the I2S output? Can you please give a bit more detail? In sound quality, when using the upsampling mode, what are...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

A great company and product is evident here. Listening to the customers and constantly improve the product is a beautiful thing to watch, and a fine example to the industry :)

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Yes, the availability of titles (from every genre and nationality) and the portability is second to none. I also picked some CDs on my travels and it was always a joy to peruse secondhand music stores. Although I have a broad taste in music, my main obsession is with Jazz, but also look for...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Good to know :) what was your previous CD transport with the Holo dac? It is great to know one more CD collector, as I am exclusively all in when it comes to the format… for the past 34 years :)

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

The Audiolab costed little more than 1000 euros, on a big store tax-free weekend sales. It was a good deal, but if I could choose again I would definitely go for the Atoll DR200 Signature. It has the same TEAC, aes/ebu output and a well designed power supply. BUT the ET-3 continues to have my...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I am still watching this space for users feedback on the ET-3. It is evolving, and although I don't care about Bluetooth, airplay or streaming features, the display is one of the major things that bothers me. If the I2S output compatibility with the Denafrips Pontus II is a sure thing. But it...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

That is a great suggestion. I hope Shanling will follow it :) A CD transport / player can have several display options (although I usually find them useless) but it must have a simple and clear mode, for all those who really need the information, like track and time. I believe that with this...

The SMSL PL200 MQA-CD Player - Now Available on Apos Audio

Thank you for your input. Yes, I am one of those convinced CD users with a huge collection. Maybe because I don’t listen to pop music, don’t use headphones and have a carefully set-up in a dedicated listening room, I manage to like the sound of CD very much. Of course there are always great...

The SMSL PL200 MQA-CD Player - Now Available on Apos Audio

Consider me very interested but… how is SMSL gear related to reliability issues? Are they robust and long lasting products or tend to be problematic? This type of components are packed with technology in a tiny box, that I am just trying prevent a service nightmare in a couple of years… Not...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I have the suspicion that if the ET-3 wasn’t equipped with Bluetooth and streaming capabilities - being just a pure CD transport - then this thread would be very short, with just praises for the sound and build quality :)

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I didn’t bought the ET3 yet, mainly because I have the Audiolab (and several others) and I want to let the ET3 evolve a bit (firmware updates and all), but I am always tuned on the users feedback. So far I think it is great!

Many thanks, that helps a lot :) I too, use wifi from my internet’s provider router to the Auralic and sounds very good. So, let the search for a DDC begin…

    Denafrips Arce

Thanks for the detailed answer. That makes a lot of sense. Can I ask what kind of improvement was presented by the Gaia, used between the Aries and the Venus II? I thought about the Hermes before but… I am afraid of the possibility of having just tiny improvements… Thanks for your help :)
