I've owned both, I'll give you the pro's and cons of both:   Momentum: Better build quality, sound isolation and portabillity   HD 598: Better sound in every way except bass impact IMHO. HD 598 has way better sound stage and sounds clearer to me. Costs a lot less than a momentum also...

  You are probably right, but the matter of fact was that I had money for one pair of headphones and wanted to see the pro's and cons of both these headphones. 

I've had the HD-598 for about a month now and I must say that I am really satisfied with these headphones. Extremely comfortable, maybe a tiny bit loose (wen I bent over a book while studying they slip down a tiny bit) but in general very nice headphones, I would recommend these. 

I've owned a pair of HD650's which I sold last week because these aren't really ment to use without an amp. I do own an amp but I've decided I want something easier to drive so I can use them connected to my iPad and things like that without carying around an amp which needs to be charged etc. 

They are definitely for home use only, I have pair of sennheiser IEM's that I use on the go. I like to travel light so I can't be bothered to carry around full size headphones. The headphones won't be for watching movies only, I will also listen to music on it. 

It would be the first pair of headphones i'd return so that should be fine. thanks for the heads up though. 

I am leaning towards the HD 598 very much. I actually have an amp but I can't be bothered to carry it around the house and charge it all the time. I am wondering if the HD 598 would be suitable for watching movies on my Ipad without an amp.

I will, since the headphones are shipping from Spain and only were sent to me yesterday, it will probably take about a week or something like that before I will receive them. I'll post how I like them, right now I am trying to find out which portable AMP I should get with them in the future...

I've made a deal on a second hand HD 650, if everything goes well it will probably arrive somewhere next week. 

So in that context, for movies the HD 598 would be good aswell because of the big soundstage? The only thing that concerns me is the HD 598 bass impact for movies, will it be sufficient? 

Thanks for the help, if I am able to get a nice seconde hand HD650 that would be awesome. I am looking for a nice pair within my budget at the moment.  My budget currently is around €220 for the headphones. (about 300 USD). 

Byrnie could you tell me why? I am a bit worried about the 598's lacking bass impact for movies. I am now picking between a new dt880, new hd 598 or second hand hd 650. Which would be the good allrounder? Watching movies is at least equally important as listening to music for me.

Thanks for the input, i heard a few people say dt880 are bad for movies but didn't say why? So I guess that isn't the case?

I might look into buying second hand after all, currently negotiating for a HD650, if i can get that within my budget. I will keep an eye on the second hands here. HD600/HD650 would those be nice? Currently spending hours researching all options, much more difficult as i had expected but I enjoy...

Hmmm, I might invest in an Amp anyway, just heard somebody say that the DT880 wasn't very good for movies,anyone having expierence with that? What would be a proper amp for a DT880, not too expensive but just good. And ofcourse, what are the other alternatives? I find watching movies, listening...
