Doodlebug - USB Isolator
Thanks Tom! I hadn't checked these forums for a while and completely missed the arrival of the Torpedo III. You're not the only one with financial dilemma's now... For now, I will have to make do with the Torpedo I with a pair of Philips tubes. Oh well... But, joking aside, the Doodlebug is a...- Gijs

Doodlebug - USB Isolator
Hey Everyone, I just finished building my Doodlebug, and am currently enjoying a well-deserved listen to my "reference album" (and a beer :) ). The build itself I found to be quite easy, especially using the build-by-photo instructions on the diyfroums.org-site. I used a 25W soldering-iron...- Gijs

AKG K702 Headband mods
I have one, and I've used it on several occasions (not on my k702 though...). Like it a lot! Especially good when working on very thick / sturdy materials. The needles that it comes with are rather thick, mind you.- Gijs

Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread
First of all the very best wishes for the New Year! I received my Philips tubes today and have only used them for about two hours now. My Torpedo has the snubber-caps upgrade, as well as the Hammond choke, and use it for my AKG k702's. Compared to the other tubes I've used sofar (6J6, 6J6W...- Gijs

Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread
Hey guys (and gals), I'm the one who ordered the last Torpedo before Tom ran out of transformers, sorry about that... I finished building the Torpedo last Sunday, and spent the last few days building a pupDAC as well. It was my first move into what you would call the "audiophile" world...- Gijs

AKG K702 Headband mods
Looks simple yet effective! I suppose it depends on the shape of your head whether the headband is uncomfortable or not, and whether you have hair (which I don't :) )...- Gijs

I told you I found it helpful to use a pair of small pliers to pull the needle through, you might want to try that too.- Gijs

I used this thin (about 1 mm) foam that is also used for packaging electronic equipment. Really don't know what the stuff is called. ..- Gijs

AKG K702 Headband mods
You're welcome! As you can see in the top picture, I Ieft the most outer bumps in place as a reference for how much foam I had apply. The way I went about is as follows: remove the bumps (cut all the way around), apply the foam, glue the leather in place onto the foam (I cut it to size after...- Gijs

AKG K702 Headband mods
Thanks! Removing the bumps is actually quite easy, they're a sort of "stickers". Once you've made a small incision where they meet the headband, they should peel right off. As for the headband itself: it's a strip of very thin plastic covered in leather. If you're going to stitch by hand, as...- Gijs

AKG K702 Headband mods
I got my k702's about two months ago, and I also found the bumps on the headband getting rather painful after about an hour or so. I decided to modify the headband a little, and here's the result: I cut off the bumps, smoothened the surface a little using coarse sandpaper and...- Gijs

DIY amp for k702's?
Tom, apologies! I just re-read part of the Torpedo build thread, including your most recent comments on match between the Torpedo and the k701's. I should like an amp to be able to give the k702's a nicely controlled and tight bass. The music that I listen to is rather bass-heavy and dont't want...- Gijs

DIY amp for k702's?
So far, I've done a lot of reading on both the Torpedo and the M3, and both appeal to me, but in different ways. The Torpedo comes as a complete kit, so there's no need to source parts yourself, and rolling tubes should be fun. The M3 on the other hand would make for the better learning...- Gijs

DIY amp for k702's?
I've done some more reading on the M3, and the more I read, the more interested I get... Would it be possible to build one on my plm 250/300 usd budget? And do I have to go for the S11 power source straight away as well? Or could I start off with a simpler one and get the S11 later, as an extra...- Gijs

DIY amp for k702's?
Thanks for your suggestion! Initially, I considered getting the Bottlehead Crack, but Doc B informed me that this amp would not be best suited for the (low impedance) k702's (at 62Ohms). He suggested the S.E.X. instead. Also, I took a look at the Torpedo. I've just gone...- Gijs

DIY amp for k702's?
Hey Everyone, About two months ago, I received my AKG k702's, and have been very happy with them sofar (except for that nasty headband :) ). They're the first step in getting more into my passion for headphones. For the last 10 year I've been listening through my AKG k271's, which, for the...- Gijs
