I prefer PCM over DSD. PCM has cleaner leading edges and more lively sound in my opinion. DSD sounds a bit blunted/damped to me. Also most albums are mastered in PCM not DSD.

It is shocking how many times in this thread the hum has been identified thanks to LCD-5. Audio equipment definitely needs to improve regarding to proper grounding.

I think it's all about system synergy. I have moved from 500$/meter to 20$/meter speaker cable and 1600$/meter analog interconnect cable to 300$/meter one because of more balanced overall sound.

I also EQ my headphones towards similar targets but certain headphones still keep some of their unique qualities even with EQ. Solitaires are more spacious and mellow hence AQ Diamond was not a good overall match enhancing these qualities too far. LCD-5 however is more in your face hard slamming...

Nice writeup. Interesting comment about AQ Diamond. I think it's best quality is frequency extension on both ends. Sometimes it might mean mids feel scooped (for me with Solitaire/P-SE) and other times it fills the full range appropriately (with LCD-5).
