Thanks Sam, I've lurked for quite a while and really appreciated the information that I was able to glean but didn't feel that I had a lot to contribute. I felt with this thread however that it lacked input from people who had been to CES and heard the EL-8's so I just wanted to contribute...

The important thing to bear in mind is the last bit of that statement .... to my ears!

To me, based on listening on quite a noisy environment, the EL-8 actually does a better job of separation of instruments and portrayal of detail. I listened only to folk/pop/rock (Jo Hamilton, Imogen Heap, London Grammar, Tunng) and mainly to female vocal so I couldn't comment on it's abilities...

I'll give you my thoughts about the EL-8's having listened several times to both the open and closed back versions driven both directly by my AK120 and by the AK120 through the Deckard. I'm new to this so I probably can't give you all that you'd like but some background on the headphones I have...

Actually I have the AK120 and even in its case, it will fit into the AKR01 case. It's a tight squeeze but it goes in the top. I've taken the foam out of the bottom of the case and just put the headphones in there, below the AK120.   By the way, the sound of this combo is just unbelievable. You...
