FiiO E09K and E07K
This isn't really a comparison between the Magni/Modi and E17/E09K (i know that this page is about the E07 and E09K, but at least i have one of them). Just wanted to point out that more people here on Headfi should consider Magni and Modi separately; the same company making two products designed...- Zaneski

Multiple Xonar DX's in computer
GX stands for "Gaming Effects". It is Asus's software that simulates EAX effects from Creative for older games that still use EAX. Of course, it is a software nightmare to get it to work (both EAX and Asus's equivalent) and it is known to break playback in a variety of situations. Even CCCP...- Zaneski

Multiple Xonar DX's in computer
Thanks for the reply. I haven't got the software to work with both cards at once. However, the lag problem was caused by the GX mode that Asus offers; everything was good once i turned it off. I don't use any of those fancy DSP stuff and only use them as a DAC for clean line out to an external...- Zaneski

Multiple Xonar DX's in computer
I have a Xonar DX and recently got another one because it was exceptionally cheap (2nd hand $20 on craigslist). I modded the $20 one with some new capacitors and OP amp and now I'm trying to use both of them in my computer. However, the Xonar DX audio center seems to be able to control only...- Zaneski

How much of an improvement is the Schiit Modi DAC over a X-Fi card?
I only use the xtremegamer's bitmatched playback mode, so no special effects like headphone surround. Does that mean getting the Modi DAC will be an improvement for both music and games compared to the soundcard? And also, if I don't plan on using any special features that soundcards provide...- Zaneski

How much of an improvement is the Schiit Modi DAC over a X-Fi card?
I currently have an Xtremegamer X-Fi soundcard that I use its analog out to a Schiit Magni amp to drive a pair of Sennheiser HD 558. I mainly use this set up to listen to music (just regular 320kbps MP3 files most of the time) and game occasionally. The Magni fixed the bloated bass that comes...- Zaneski

Help: Using an amplifier seems to give me worse sound
Quote: Hmm...I just did and it sounds very good! It seems like this gives me the best sound of all the setups I've tried so far with the equipment I have on hand. Wow thanks, I'm surprised. Now I'm curious why this gives off better sound. Quote: Yup I've tried the FiiO...- Zaneski

Help: Using an amplifier seems to give me worse sound
Thanks for the quick responses. Head-fi community sure is active. I got hold of a FiiO Taishan DAC (not sure how representative this is for the general sound characteristics of external DACs) to figure out why I hear such huge differences from using different sources. (I thought the headphones...- Zaneski

Help: Using an amplifier seems to give me worse sound
I recently got a HD 558 and I heard that although it doesn't need amplification as it's easy to drive, it could still benefit from one. So before getting one myself, I borrowed my friend's Schiit Magni and plugged it into the analog output of my Xtremegamer sound card. A: Xtremegamer ->...- Zaneski
