    REVIEW: The Stunning McIntosh D100

That does not sound normal to me.  I would have the dealer that you bought it from straighten this out with McIntosh immediately.

    REVIEW: The Stunning McIntosh D100

Interesting as I too am using a Radio Shack $40 DAC from my cable box optical out to my McIntosh C220 Preamp.  Since I only have 2.1 for both music and movies/tv it made sense to do it like this and it works great.  I haven't tried it on a music source such as my PC though as I use a Rega DAC...

    REVIEW: The Stunning McIntosh D100

Any update if you were capable of comparing the McIntosh D100 to the Bryston BDA-2?  These are both on my short list and would like to hear some comparisons if possible.  Right now I'm looking at a Godfather price on the BDA-2 but need to know if it favors well in comparison to the D100.  Not...

Quote: Little bit touchy there ... I was replying to the post on which they directed me to the AMR which is not what I was talking about or giving feedback on.  Don't get your panties all wad up. If you don't like my post feel free to ignore them.

No, not the AMR DP-777 that thing is priced too high (although I'm sure quite a statement piece) but you guys (iFi) are the more budget oriented offspring, so a DAC from you.  Cut out all the extras such as head amps and possibly use FPGAs rather than Sabre chips, nice half width chassis...

Hi, with all due respect these are polls you got off of a forum that is primarily headphone oriented so of course they will be skewed towards headphone/portability use.  But the fact that at least 22% of the people who voted 100% desktop on a headphone forum should speak quite a bit to you...

I agree that execution is what counts, but my feeling is that these extra features in correlation to the design and development, the interaction of each component within the unit do add up to the cost.  I believe there's a market for both a head amp/DAC combo and one without all those features...

Those are the 2 highest on my list as well.

I know let's hope sooner than later as I'm in the market for a $1000 and below DAC as we speak.  With balanced and unbalanced connectors, no head amp or volume control needed/wanted, DSD x64/x128 and DXD capabilities.   To me it seems as if a lot of manufacturers are just trying to cram as...

Well, at least us 100% desktop guys can look forward to another piece coming out as a straight DAC sometime in the future.

Voted 100% desktop.  I already have a Decware Taboo headphone rig and won't be purchasing this particular DAC from you as I don't like to pay for things I won't ever use.  It would have been better to have the option of not getting a headphone amp like the Benchmark DAC 2 HGC.  But I think it's...

iFi iPurifier: audio+power purification. Tested by Jcue deejay on his DJ rig!

Unfortunately USB is limited to 48khz on the Rega DAC ~ so SPDIF Coax is a much better choice at 192khz, but unfortunately my only options on my PC is Optical TOSLINK (limited to 96khz) or USB.  That's why I was considering an ilink USB to SPDIF converter to get the full 192khz because most of...

Thanks for the quick reply ... ok so if I were to use these items can you walk me through the setup please?   1. iUSB Power Supply 2. Gemini USB Cable 3. iLink USB to SPDIF   I have a Rega DAC though and I know that the USB is limited bandwidth compared to the SPDIF which is why I want the...

Hi where does the iPurifier fit in against or within the iFi Micro USB Power Supply?  Is this a step up or down, etc.?   Thanks!
