HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Hi all, I'm wondering how important the DAC is with these cans. Is the WM8740 "enough"? I'll be using a Headstage Arrow 4T amp.- nicks9

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**
Hi guys, I just purchased these, but after reading some of the posts here I'm starting to regret it. Is modding/EQ really necessary for these to sound great? I thought that for the price I was getting something that's impressive out of the box.- nicks9

Headstage Arrow HE: Reviews, Impressions, Perceptions & Sensations
I've had the 4T for almost 2 weeks now, and I absolutely love it. Just a disclaimer: I don't really own any "high-end" audio equipment, so I'm probably much easier to impress than most people here. The Arrow was intended to be an upgrade over the Fiio E17's amp, which I use as my main...- nicks9

Android phones and USB DACs
I decided to buy the full USB Audio Recorder Pro, since the trial version worked so well. Not only does it crash every time I start it, but now it just completely froze my S4 and I can't even restart the phone. What the hell?- nicks9

I swear USB Audio Recorder Pro on the S4 sounds better than my PC (ASIO > S/PDIF). This thing would be amazing as a full player.- nicks9

Quote: Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm just not too thrilled about amping the signal twice. Audio from my PC sounds noticeably better when I bypass the mixer. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean it will make a real difference with the S4. I hope that's the case.- nicks9

Just upgraded my Rig - MOST of my music sounds worse now ;(
Quote: Most people don't consider the most important factor in this equation, which is the actual music. Better doesn't sound "better" if the music isn't mixed/mastered properly to begin with. Many CDs/digital releases aren't. Having good equipment improves high quality audio, but...- nicks9

Quote: Huh? That's not how it works with my PC. I use an ASIO driver and it bypasses the PC volume control completely. Wouldn't source volume + external amp volume = clipping and distortion? When I had an iPod and I used line out > amp it was the same, no volume control.- nicks9

Is the USB audio out being amplified by the S4? I didn't even think of that, but I'm pretty sure the volume still worked with the E17 too.- nicks9

Headstage Arrow HE: Reviews, Impressions, Perceptions & Sensations
Quote: I know, I don't plan on returning it but the site says "30 day money back guarantee". I'll email him about the details. The full 2 year warranty is part of why I want to buy it new. I'm using it with 598's now, but if I decide to buy high impedance headphones in the future...- nicks9

Headstage Arrow HE: Reviews, Impressions, Perceptions & Sensations
Quote: I don't exactly need it, but I just want a higher quality amp. There are a lot of people doing this, because apparently the E17 amp isn't that great. If I don't hear any real difference then I'll return it.- nicks9

Headstage Arrow HE: Reviews, Impressions, Perceptions & Sensations
Quote: Hmm. I feel like a warmer sound might benefit a lot of the music I listen to, especially folk and ambient stuff. I'll be using it with the E17 DAC + HD598, if that matters.- nicks9

I can't find much info about the 4T model. I just ordered it, but I'm a little nervous. Are there any significant changes that would make the reviews of past models outdated?- nicks9

FiiO E17 "ALPEN" - First Impression + Final Thought
I have a question about the L7 LOD. Does the USB jack on the L7 allow you to still use USB audio input on the E17? I can't imagine why it wouldn't, but I just want to make sure.- nicks9

Portable ( w/ USB power option) amp to pair with E17
I'm looking to upgrade my amp and use the E17 DAC with something else. I'm primarily using HD598s, so power isn't an issue. It needs to be completely portable and able to run off of USB. My budget is around $300. Any suggestions would be appreciated.- nicks9

Maybe I just have hi-res music that I would rather not convert to a lesser quality for no reason. It's funny that I have to defend myself on a site full of people who spend thousands of dollars on hi-fi equipment.- nicks9

Quote: Thanks, that was really helpful. I guess for now that particular app is the only way to do it. Too bad it has such minimal functionality as a player. It's probably not a good idea to let it downsample the audio on the fly, right? I can actually play hi-res on Poweramp...- nicks9

Android phones and USB DACs
Does the Galaxy S4 support 24bit/96khz output to a DAC? People keep saying that "it works" with all of these USB DACs like the E17, but I can't get 24/96 unless I use USB Audio Recorder Pro. If someone could clarify, I would really appreciate it. I'm a bit confused here.- nicks9

Android phones and USB DACs
Hi guys, I've been lurking around here for a while but just decided to join. I just got my Galaxy S4 and I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to get 24bit/96khz out of an E17 with anything other than USB Audio Recorder Pro. I'd really like to use a full player like Poweramp.- nicks9
