[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs

TL;DR: If you want to wear these with the cables draped over your ears you should put the left earbud in your right ear and vice versa.   Long version: Just a random realization for those of us who drape the cables over our ears to reduce cable noise.  The buds are angled, and if you hang them...

[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs

There is a little bit of hiss with the RX3 and Pan Am, but I find it tolerable. As for the SE846s, I did a lot of research on them, but never heard them.   I had the SE535s and didn't like them at all, unlike most, so I simply passed over the 846s.

[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs

You're welcome, no problem.  I know it's a little funny to compare IEMs to full-sizers, but it sounds like you got the idea! I use the white tips, I never connected with the blue ones.  As for the IE800s, lest I be off topic for too long, I've found the included tips to fit well, they are quite...

[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Impressions, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs

I know you didn't ask me, but I have both, I recently got the IE800s and have had the Cardas for a few months now. Having read some of the complaints about the IE800's ergonomics, I can only say the Cardas' massive microphonics and heavy cable make the IE800s seem like a dream.   As far as...

    Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

I can't speak to your current setup, the TH600 is fun to me.  To clarify my previous post, I really bought the Pan Am to pair with the LCD-2s, a pairing about which there is enough written that I won't belabor the point.  Technically speaking the Pan Am is an impedance mismatch with the TH600...

    Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

Ok, it's been two weeks, I think everything has mostly settled. Busy so this will be quick. The LCD-2s are amazing with the Pan Am.  Amazing.  I swapped out the stock tubes for the Voshkods and they're really alive in a way I haven't encountered yet (which I think has revealed I like bass--not...

ALO Audio International Impressions and Appreciation Thread

I'm going to weigh in here since I've done pretty much all of the below (not with the National specifically, but a standalone amp) so can share my thoughts.       I got the PHA-1.  Almost immediately I found it super annoying to swap my iPhone in and out of it.  I broke down and...

ALO Audio International Impressions and Appreciation Thread

Quote: I tried in vain to get the Int'l work directly with the iPhone 5. Perhaps if the phone is jailbroken to work with the Lightning to USB Camera cable it's possible, but I don't want to jailbreak my phone. However, it works flawlessly with said cable and my iPad Mini.

Pictures of Your Portable Rig (part XVI)

My clean new portable setup.  iPod Touch g5 with Sony PHA-1 connected with a short lightning cable. All attached using 3M dual-lock, so no rubber bands. So far sounds really great and my personal favorite so far, despite what looks like a specs mismatch all around, is the Fostex TH600. I...

Cardas Earbud / Hearing Aid Project (aka Cardas Mirrors)

Quote: Just a little update since I had a lot of negatives the first few days.  Been burning these (and my ears) in fairly aggressively, and I have to say they sound lovelier by the day.  Compared to other in-ears I'd say these feel a bit like going to open-back headphones from closed-back...

    Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

TH600s arrived today.  I'm going to be burning them in as fast as I can, then posting impressions vs. my LCD-2.2s on ALO Pan Am. And then getting a second job.

ALO Audio International Impressions and Appreciation Thread

The ALO Audio Int'l is the center of the sneaky portable rig I posted here. My Pan Am arrives soon, can't wait to hear it.  Seems like the International has turned me into an ALO loyalist. Pound for pound probably the single headfi purchase I've been happiest with so far.

Quote: Nah, phones are excused from having to fit in the sleeve.  ;-) For out and about mostly the Sennheiser Momentums, a little bit of the Monster Trumpets I inherited when I need the isolation. Tried the new Cardas EM5813s but they're not for me, will probably continue my search for...

Pictures of Your Portable Rig (part XVI)

My incognito portable rig, pretty much the opposite of the awesome teched-out setups y'all have.  Photos to show you how little you see.             I wanted a Cypher Labs-based setup, I was concerned with a. the cost, b. having it stolen since it looks valuable c. having...

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Love the Magni (truly unbelievable for the price point, great props to Schiit for intention and execution in bringing a poweful $99 amp to market)... with everything BUT the he400s.   I loved the Magni with HD650s, for fun put my Senn Momentums through it: yep, fun.   For some reason the...

Cardas Earbud / Hearing Aid Project (aka Cardas Mirrors)

Mine arrived last Weds.  Some first thoughts: the sound's just not good out of the box.  I'm hoping the 72 hours I left them cranking in my office at work this weekend will have done something.  By "not good" I'd say (again, out of the box) muffled, muddy, not just treble roll-off but really...

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Quote: I know.  Perhaps it's that the HE-400s don't require as much power as other orthos, they get pretty loud through just an iPhone. Plus there's the DAC factor.  Not to mention that so much of this is subjective.  Maybe the overall tinniness of the sound initially put me off.

HE-400 vs. HD650s on Schitt Magni/Modi vs. ALO Audio International:   Just adding some impressions on the HE-400 based on my experience with the equipment listed above, which is just about the full list of stuff I actually use.  Just in case anyone's searching the thread for comparisons, amp...
