HE400i's dropped to 300 on amazon, so I bought a pair of them. Thanks for the help everyone! Now it's time to start figuring out what to amp the headphones with.

Would you recommend the 400i then for more bassy applications like electronic music? 

Would the HD650 be a decent alternative or are they similar to the HD700's in sound other than the treble? As appealing as the Hifiman's look, the 650's are also pretty compelling because of the lower price and all the replaceable parts.

So is there really any overt benefit to buying the HD700 then? I tried one out in a store yesterday and found it to sound pretty decent, but I also tried it without an amp so I didn't really get the best idea. 

Would I be negating the peaky treble at all by opting for a tube amp over a solid state?
