If anybody is reading this thread, I've come to a conclusion for my first pair of entry level headphones. I considered the Creative Aurvana Live, ATH M50s, and Koss TBSE1 and have finally chosen the Philips Uptowns. They seem to have superior comfort and build quality to any of the other models...

I'll definitely look in to those AKGs, they look like great value for the price! Only reason I rather go closed is because of the supposedly more 'immersive' experience.   I already have a great pair of IEMS, and need these over ears for when I'm on my laptop. Thanks for the response!

Bump! Can't seem to get any suggestions on the reccomendations thread, other than the mdr v6 which, although heavily recommended, doesn't fit my specified sound signature.    To all the audiophiles here, any suggestions for a newbie? :P

Thanks for the response, I was looking into those earlier but reviews said that they're on the analytical side which isn't really what I'm looking for :P Anybody have any views on the sound of the Philips Uptowns? They look well built and are on sale for like 40% on amazon.com

Can anyone recommend closed, circumaural headphones that work well unamped of a laptop (hp dv6)? Looking for a warm but fairly balanced pair that sound good for rap+hip hop+rnb (I think the term is HiFi, not sure) The CAL! looked good but not very durable, so I looked at the Philips...
