Ah, I should have been more upfront but the reason I asked is that I broke the connector on my left earpiece a while back trying to fix the annoying mmcx dropout problems. So I do have a spare right W60 earpiece if you are interested, however I believe they are manufactured as matched pairs so...

I have had similar problems. My W80 had to be replaced after less than a year after purchase. I was using the EPIC cable, so it's not an ALO specific issue. I have found that the MMCX connectors are prone to developing verdigris if they come into contact with moisture. This seems to be the...

I enquired about this recently and Westone told me that replacement faceplates can be purchased for $5 each plus shipping.

What about the ES/UM Pro replacement cable? Not an actual memory wire, but the shaped over-ear section is effective. What I'd like is: 1) a version of the cable with a Lightning connector or, failing that, 2) a version with a straight 3.5 mm plug, to use with Apple's Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter.

No, not a cable issue, but rather the MMCX sockets on the earpieces. Yes, I tried cleaning the contacts but without any real success.

Back to the audio dropout issue... I contacted my dealer about this and he said to return the W80 to the distributor, who confirmed the problem, and after consulting Westone sent me a brand new W80. Which is great. However, while I was without my W80, I went back to using my W60 and started...

I've been using Comply P-Series tips with Westone earphones over the years and they are working well for me with the W80. Great for active use due to the high noise isolation and reduced thudding sensation when walking or running.

Thanks for the idea, but the connections are still loose even with a new cable. It does seem that the mmcx sockets are wearing down as time goes on.

Yes, I am having the same problem. Do the mmcx connectors feel loose? I think mine had a bit of play even when new but I'm sure they have become a lot looser over time. I have tried disconnecting/reconnecting the cable, cleaning the contacts etc, and the problem will generally go away for a...

Yeah, I read about that. I do actually have one of those UE attenuation jacks (that I have mainly used for air travel), but I think the sound from a low impedance source is better without it!

    Westone W80

Yes, I think the UM56 is definitely the best sounding tip, though the Comply P-Series is still the best by far for running, due to the much reduced "thudding" effect. (The Westone True-Fit is a pale imitation of Comply, in my opinion.) I got the wenge wood finish on the A10 (very nice, by the...

I agree, the 'J' clips are a massive improvement on the fragile 'C' clips. Like you, I use a blue clip on the left and a red clip on right. Even better, the latest version of the UM56 tips is similarly colour coded!

Well, I asked Westone specifically about the ES80, but I agree I may have received a stock answer about the ES series in general. As for the A10/A12, I auditioned the demo units, which are supposed to be essentially the same as the U10/U12 universal models. The A12 demo unit seemed like a "fun"...

    Westone W80

Well, that's an interesting question. When I got the W80, I was initially a bit disappointed because it sounded less bassy and somewhat thin compared to the W60. However, after further listening, I realized that while the W80's bass is leaner, it is "tighter" and goes deeper. Also, while the...

    Westone W80

I am rather surprised at this, as I have queried Westone as to the difference in sound signature between the W80 and ES80, and was told that the ES series has more bass than the corresponding W models. I am not questioning your assessment at all - you have both W80 and ES80 at your disposal, so...

It's worse than that, though. Seems that the seller, knowing that the original iPhone cable was cosmetically damaged, included an additional brand new cable - presumably to ensure an easy sale. The buyer basically saw this as an opportunity to screw Westone for a free cable...

Yeah, that's one reason I hardly post anything these days. One minute you're having a nice civilized conversation. The next, some random guy is giving you abuse for no apparent reason.

Nice attitude. The original owner stated that the cable was still working. The warranty covers manufacturing defects, not cosmetic damage. I guess you could cut the cable with scissors and say to Westone, "hey, this cable isn't working for some reason". Anyway, good luck.

I don't see how it is reasonable to expect Westone to replace that cable (which still works), especially as the seller already included brand new iPhone and EPIC cables.

Given the teeth marks you mention, the seller probably did know about it    The cables would indeed be covered. However, the warranty is only valid for the original purchaser.   Which version do you have? The original version (which I have) just had the letter "W" on the faceplates and came...

I agree, the cable can be hard to detach the first time out of the box. However, I find it's best to detach cables regularly to avoid the connectors seizing up. Two-pin connectors have issues as well. One side of my W4R got badly corroded. It was stuck so fast that pliers just broke the plug...

Glad you got it sorted! I had the same issue. My usual technique is to let the nails of my thumb and middle finger go into the gap, then with a gentle squeeze it generally pops right off.   However, one time I had left the same cable on for maybe a couple of months and it was stuck fast. Like...

I agree with Spyro, the W60 has a much fuller sound. My W4R broke so I can no longer compare directly, but it definitely sounded a lot thinner than the W60. Actually I wouldn't say the W4 had too much mid-bass emphasis - that was much more of an issue with the W3. The W40 (the W4's successor)...
