Quote: I wouldn't say they are UNcomfortable, just not over ear (they are on ear) and I didn't like that. Didn't like the cheap looking sponge pads either. But they do sound good (albeit quite energetic!).- MrBKR

Quote: I tend to agree that they might well be 'the ones' to try and get. I love their looks too. As I type, E-bay UK has No 5ks for sale and two pairs of 7k's at £600 BIN or £359 with 4 days to go... So, alas, I think they're going to be out of price range.- MrBKR

Hi all, need some serious help here... Some may remember an old thread of mine with the voting between 4x cans and which will I choose etc? Ok, so here's the situation and the issue in a medium sized nutshell... Looking for Closed Back (was not before, but now fairly important) Over...- MrBKR

Denon Fostex Model Numbers
Probably a quick and easy one... (sorry if already posted) Are there direct equivalent model numbers for Fosgate compared to Denon? i.e. Denon AH-D2000 = Fostex ? Denon AH-D5000 = Fostex ? Denon AH-D7000 = Fostex ? ???- MrBKR

So, without being able to directly compare the phones I wanted to side-by-side in the stores, I have had no choice but to order my shortlist of 4x and do the test at home... Looking for: Comfy, fairly neutral hinting towards slightly warm, over-ear, open or closed, certainly not bass...- MrBKR

Quote: Thanks for that link, very useful... I think I am in this boat: HP100's are pretty good all round for £150 and I can grow to like the looks... Beyer 880(600) for comfort and all round ability and priced for about £220 Sennheiser HD650 as the dreamy choice and probably...- MrBKR

Bigsby’s top cans for 2013: ep1 Soundmagic HP100- The Beyer Slayer, The Mid Monster, The Detail Demon.
I listened to a pair last week and I am a fussy pain in the butt looking for something that is all things to all men (Punchy Bass, Vocals, Open Soundstage, Sparkle and Life, for Multiple applpications etc). Every pair I I have listened to had a box it couldn't really tick (unless I spend...- MrBKR

Quote: They were the 2 that I had shortlisted (although the 650's are pushing the budget a little). I know there are probably plenty of Punch/Weighty cans out there, but so far the only ones I have heard have been closed back and thus, so far, have sounded closed-in and in need of a...- MrBKR

That may be true as I only had IPhone to use while out and about. It's rubbish at driving big headphones.- MrBKR

upgrade from ath-m50's with more mids and deeper bass?
I listened to M50's and HP100's the other day. I quite liked the HP100's and preferred them the the AT's. More comfy and a more open expansive and detailed sound (without bass loss, although not really noticably stronger bass than the AT's). They are a bit 'big' looking and a little...- MrBKR

The Multi-Purpose Challenge
Nice offer, thank you. Alas, I am in the South West. I'll stick the AT's on the list and look for them locally. A900X and NOT the AD900X (only difference Closed/Open back???) What is the soundstage and 'openess' of the Closed-Back A900X's???- MrBKR

The Multi-Purpose Challenge
The sacrifice I would say would be the drums. So long as the sound is not harsh/shrill at the top, most reasonable headphones will be ok. In-ears would be ok for the drums. They don't need audiophile quality. With Bass, I don't need ridiculous extension or overbearing bass, rather a tight...- MrBKR
