I have not yet had any issues with the XL pads. And I use them a couple of hours every night.

On my unit, RCA jacks feel fairly solid. If you wiggle them hard enough it may move a little, but not very much at all.   In regards to the cheap looking plastic ... its a shame it hasn't grown on you. On the upside, it is at the back of the unit, which normally faces the wall.

Yeh I am starting to burn the Momentum's in. Out of the box I agree, the bass is very much present. To me the bass sounded a little sluggish. So I am also hoping for the bass to tighten up after burn in. I will bring my DAC collection in. Should give me a chance to try a few headphones with them.

I just received my XL earpads. Damn they are worth it.   They fit my ears better. Better sound isolation. Better soundstage. Better bass extension ... well they headphones vibrate with deep bass now. They didn't do that before.

I think a modded Q701 outperforms the K712. And is cheaper too.

I just heard the concero hp with lcd-3 and it was liquid gold. It had more than enough to drive lcd-3, so I am thinking the q701 should be no issue.
