AUNE S6 DAC/AMP Combo
Hello, sorry for the very late contribution to this topic, but this morning I tried my S6 with a Gustard U12 and a coaxial connection, and I can tell you that the S6 does not support DoP. BTW, I have never found this feature stated anywhere on the specifications. I tried just to make sure, but...- GioF71

Review by 'GioF71' on item 'Aune S6'
Introduction First of all, I would like to thank Aune (@AuneAudio) for giving me the opportunity to review their unit. This is the link to the relevant head-fi thread: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/final-list-announced-aune-s6-32bit-384k-dsd-128-dac-amp-worldwide-review-tour.830399/. I would...- GioF71

Bit Perfect Audio from Linux
It's not spdif that does not support 88.2 and 176.4. It's the digital output of my mainboard that doesn't. The STX supports all sampling rates up to 192kHz, including 88.2 and 176.4. About "STX,1": this means the output is the digital output. If you specify STX,0, you are using the analog output...- GioF71

Yes, the STX only has a different connection. Look at the last picture of this page: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/asus-essence-stx-ii-7-1-sound-card-review,4.html and see the adapter on the bottom right of the picture. That adapter allows you to connect a regular optical to your STX...- GioF71

Bit Perfect Audio from Linux
Hello, I understand my post might be confusing. Let me explain my desktop setup. I have a regular desktop PC with Linux Mint 18.2 as well as a dedicated low power box with an Atom D510 with ubuntu server 16.04. I named the latter "desktop media player". Both have mpd and upmpdcli installed...- GioF71

Exactly. You might want to also use different names so you can easily select your output configuration in your mpd client. Also consider using device names instead of device numbers. Hope this helps- GioF71

Bit Perfect Audio from Linux
There are situations where you need a .asoundrc (or at system level, a /etc/asound.conf). But it's not strictly necessary if you simply want to configure one or more alsa output on mpd. Yes of course you may configure more output. The list of sound devices is given by the command posted...- GioF71

Bit Perfect Audio from Linux
Why do you need to modify the .asound? It is not strictly needed, at least for a bitperfect configuration. I have mpd also running on my desktop PC so mpd starts as a user process. As long as this process reads a correct conf file, you need to set something like "hw:DAC,0" on your alsa output...- GioF71

Hello, if mpd.conf is in /etc, then no, the .asoundrc is not relevant. Which configuration do you need to specify?- GioF71

I'd like to mention I really appreciate a lot ubuntu, in all its flavours. I have especially multiple installations of ubuntu server as well as a pair debian. For the desktop, I am now using Linux Mint Cinnamon after trying ubuntu 16.04 with unity, trying Gnome on it from the PPA. That does...- GioF71

Not the place where I was also expecting to see this news reported... Anyway, that's great news for the Linux community. Maybe that would mean that Canonical will contribute more actively with Gnome from now on. Now IMO Unity is not bad at all. It's just not necessary. Gnome can be configured...- GioF71

Hello @Ulises, there are different ways, including the following which I have tried 1) Use Google Chrome and PulseAudio. Just check on the console that the sample rate is not changed (44100 Hz). For example, if your DAC is named "DAC", type the following: cat...- GioF71

SMSL Sanskrit 24bit 192kHz USB DAC
I own the x12 and used to own the 5th gen Sanskrit. The x12 is a lot better and has better functionalities and connectivity options. The Sanskrit is a nice DAC for the price. You can also upgrade it with a linear power supply for better results. Hope this helps!- GioF71

Are there any UPNP or Chromecast products in the price range between Chromecast Audio and Sonore Microorbiter
Hello, there are some, one of the latest I heard of is the ieast streamer pro. It does have spdif out (maybe both optical and coaxial iirc), you might want to check their website and see if something matches your use case- GioF71

Teac UD 503 DAC (2015 New Release, DXD, DSD256)
Hello, nice interview @bflat, thanks for the pointer. But still, I am wondering: are those guys serious here when they say the decided to make round corners (instead of right angles) to facilitate the electrons flow? There are some "laughs" around, but I do not really understand. What do...- GioF71

Hello drteming, nice review. Sorry for the o.t., but I am very curious about your specific o2 amp. I own one from Epiphany Acoustics, but it seems very different from yours. Can you tell us something more about that amp? Thank you and congratulations for the great review.- GioF71

Hello ipromesisposi. Any cange you are Italian? Reading your nickname suggests so. I still have (both) my Aune X1S, still going strong. I also bought one XP1 (the linear power supply) for the one I keep at home. The X1S is still very appreciated around, and I think this happens for a good...- GioF71

SMSL Sanskrit 24bit 192kHz USB DAC
I first tried that psu with a Peachtree dac-it and the difference is quite immediate to perceive. That was the moment when I actually realized what does the expression 'tight bass' even means. Also, a lot more detail was discernible. Same applied for the Sanskrit, minus the surprise, I suppose...- GioF71
