Modding HD 439's
Alright, thanks. I just figured the foam has to be there for some reason, so I'd rather not remove it. I don't know why I didn't think of just poking through it, haha.- mrjimyjohn

Sennheiser HD-428 / HD-428s Modding Guide - January 2013

I didn't bother with the plasticine, mostly because I'm lazy, but nevertheless the bass has much more impact without losing its clarity and the mids and highs seem to...- mrjimyjohn

Modding HD 439's
Sorry for the bump guys, but I have a question about the grey foam that covers the screws. Obviously I have to peel it off to get to the screws underneath, but will it be sticky enough that I can just throw it back on top when I'm closing them up, or will some sort of glue be required?- mrjimyjohn

So I've been running my new HD439s unamped for the last few days. I'm really liking them, but even after 40+ hours of burn in I feel like the bass could be a little more powerful. Would an amp help? I'm going to try to build a little cMoy here soon, mostly just for the learning experience, but...- mrjimyjohn

Quote: My 201s have recently broken, and are being replaced by HD439s. They do sound pretty good for what they cost, (often around $20 online) but honestly I would spend more for something of higher quality.- mrjimyjohn

Quote: Thanks a lot for the input man! I'll definitely go with the 439s. The only other similar senns I have owned were the HD201s, if you have tried those, how do they compare in comfort to the 400 series?- mrjimyjohn

Alright, my Sennheiser HD 201s are starting to quit and I'm looking to replace them with something slightly higher quality, as I was generally unimpressed with their sound quality (which was to be expected as I only paid 20 some dollars. So, What are the best sounding around the ear...- mrjimyjohn
