post your grado mods....
I done it that way, but the snap-off knife that I used didn't help, I think that a x-acto knife should be bettter I tried using mild steel but the edge gone bad after a few punches, maybe stainless steel is better. The real deal is to cut the memory foam in slabs...- st3al

post your grado mods....
I'm going to explain how I achieved the blue line measurement on my SR80i. Green line is with the comfy pads. Disassemble your grado's using a hair dryer. Punch two holes in the driver (punch mod). Replace the grill or remove the button if possible. Perform the quarter mod (but with an internal...- st3al

Android: Neutron Music Player
It's your local IP adress, in your computer press Windows+R, type cmd, then type ipconfig /all Look for the line that says IPv4 Adress, in my case says 192.168.0.105. Do not confuse this ip with your public IP, here you can see your Public IP adress http://www.whatismyip.com/ here are a...- st3al

Yes, share a folder from Windows, then, in Neutron, go to the library and add the local network path. For example smb://192.168.0.105/music If you want to check that the network filesharing is working, dowload ES file explorer, scan your local network, the name of your PC should appear and you...- st3al

Cat5e cable is the cheap way of making speaker cable, but if you use it for headphones you'll regret it, because of the stiffness of the cable.- st3al

The Stax Thread III
I'm planning to buy a pair of SR-407, but I found some kind of deal in my country (a pair of electret Stax SR-40 and the adapter srd-4) the price is not that good, but, hey it's a vintage pair of Stax. According to Tyll measurements, they lack some bass. I listen to proggresive metal and rock...- st3al

Indeed, I've removed the cloth, I didn't hear any difference. I'm listening Valentina Lisitsa - Valentina Plays Liszt. I'm confused, I know that this cd was recorded while she was playing a grand piano. I play the piano just a little bit, the grand piano samples that I have doesnt sound like...- st3al

I don't know how to really describe this, every detail is present, you hear the kicks and the bass strings so clearly, but suddenly you hear the hi hat very detailed, the soundstage is wider, you feel the athmosphere. When you hear the bass so detailed you think that the mids and highs are dead...- st3al

it's just like the quarter mod you'd do on comfies, but here you're using memory foam. You know, memory foam which adjusts perfectly to whatever it comes into contact with. Perfect seal around the ears, it really lets the bass shine. No, it does not get muffled. Not at all. I get bass, and keep...- st3al

They are very comfy :) , but if the thickness isn't like in the picture you will feel the driver housing hitting your ears and thats very annoying after 20 o 30 minutes... The first one that I made was 30mm ( about an inch and a quarter) and those in the picture are 50mm (about 2 inches).- st3al

Android: Neutron Music Player
Awesome app, but if you use file sharing on your windows pc it's a PITA. When you disconnect from the wi-fi network you lost the library and you have to restart your phone or force close the app, then re scan the library, it's weird but I blame windows 8.1. I'm going to use a raspberry pi and an...- st3al

So, your Grados are too bright?
If you could find anything wrong with Grados, you could say that they’re too bright. If you’d like to get some bass out of them, you’d have to equalize. Rumour has it that if you do a little modding on the pads, by cutting out a quarter coin size worth of them you’d change the sound quite...- st3al
