Drilled out part of the logo area on the caps.  No perceptible difference.  It's an easy mod to test out cause you can just plug the holes with your fingertips.  Not enough material removed to do anything.         As I was marking where my drill holes were going a little shadow...

Ok, took Cash's advice.  Yes, the isolation is much lower.  It took me a while to figure out that I was hearing birds singing and not some super subtle audio on whatever track I was listening to.   Unfortunately without that cover piece these headphones don't really hold themselves together...

Can you compare the isolation between stock 82 and open back 82?  I'm sure we're all interested in a general comparison but I am hoping opening up the backs reduces the isolation significantly.   ETA:  darn you Cash, it's your fault I have to disassemble these things so frequently :).

Like Xprime I couldn't leave well enough alone.  I wanted to avoid dealing with the the cloth damping's adhesive for repeated disassemblies so I ended up locating the screw holes and cutting the cloth over them.       Take out those 3 screws and you've got the whole shebang to look at...

Got it.  Any particular reason not to poke 3 holes in the damping so I can get at those screws easy for repeated disassembly?  It seems like the damping covered by the pads is useless.

Any hints how these disassembly?  I feel like if I pry on them enough I'll be able to pop them open but would rather not risk damage.

Finally got mine today.  I like them.  The only decent headphone I have is a pair of modded D2000's and I don't have them handy for direct comparison but if I ordered the D2000's and these came in the box and I was a blind man I'd probably be pretty happy.  One surprise is I was expecting...

Saw the Hobbit.  1 hour mind numbing Tolkien setup, 2 hours dwarves swinging things at orcs.  Should have been half as long... or rather should have been the entire story crammed into a 3 hour movie.  I loved LOTR but this is a 4/10.
